I’m low-key looking forward to new JTBC rom-com My Sweet Mobster. Despite the cutesy (but funny) bright pink posters, the Korean drama sounds cute and I’m always excited when an actor appears in a role that’s different from most of their previous ones. Especially when an actor known for serious projects/roles stars in a rom-com! In this case, it’s Uhm Tae Goo (Coin Locker Girl, Save Me 2).

My Sweet Mobster is a love story that stars Uhm Tae Goo as a former gang leader who has now left his troubled past behind. Presently, he is the CEO of a social enterprise that actively recruits former gang members after their release from prison and guides them towards a fresh start. He also works towards dismantling gangs throughout the nation. Han Sun Hwa (Work Later, Drink Now; Kpop group Secret) plays a kids’ content creator known as “Mini Unnie”. She promotes a minimalist approach to play in place of expensive toys. Despite her low subscriber number, she remains bright and determined in her endeavor. Kwon Yul (Mental Coach Jegal) rounds out the cast as a prosecutor and an enthusiastic subscriber of Mini Unnie. He is also suspicious of Uhm Tae Goo’s character as he believes that people don’t change so easily.

My Sweet Mobster is based on a web novel. It premieres today as the new Wednesday-Thursday drama on JTBC.
