I’m super happy with this upcoming drama! It’s like a dream pair, but which I never even thought about. What more, Kang Ha Neul (Misaeng) finally getting a main lead role! Yes, yes and yes. He will be romancing Gong Hyo Jin (who is returning to dramaland after 3 long years with her last drama being Jealousy Incarnate) in new KBS show When The Camellia Blooms. It’s a romantic comedy (Yes again) which stars her as a woman who hasn’t been lucky in love and him as a simple man who doesn’t hold back once he starts liking someone. Naturally, the two fall in love in this noona romance which does not sound anything new or fresh but the charm and acting strength of the two main leads alone is enough to make it a ride I really wanna take.

The drama has multiple couples. Kim Ji Suk (Top Star Yoo Baek) plays a basketball player while Ji Yi Soo (My Fellow Citizens) plays his wife and a social media influencer. Oh Jung Se (Plus Nine Boys) stars as an optician, with Uhm Hye Ran (Life) playing his wife and a lawyer. Rounding out the cast is Son Dam Bi (What Happens to My Family?), playing a part time worker employed by Gong Hyo Jin’s character.

I love that the show has so many couples and those couples are played by a strong group of actors. When The Camellia Blooms is penned by the scriptwriter of well-received Fight My Way and is directed by the PD of Are You Human Too. This will be Kang Ha Neul’s first comeback project after his mandatory military service. He was last seen in Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo back in 2016. I’ve missed him a lot and I’m eagerly waiting for When The Camellia Blooms which is arriving in September after currently-airing Justice wraps up its run.
