Half of 2023 is gone and half is left. Where did the time go?? July comes with a small list of new dramas — 3 of which are second seasons of older shows. There is a nice and limited mix to pick from. So without further ado, let’s have a look at it!
My Lovely Liar

Premiere Date: July 31
Network: tvN
Stars: Kim So Hyun (The Tale of Nokdu), Hwang Min Hyun (Alchemy Of Souls)
Slot: Monday & Tuesday
Number Of Episodes: 16
Genre: Comedy, Romance, Fantasy
Synopsis: Love story between a woman with an ability to detect lies and her next door neighbor, a genius music producer who is hiding his identity.
Thoughts: I’m most excited about this show among all July dramas. I like the cast a lot and the rom-com-fantasy plot sounds fascinating too.
Shadow Detective 2

Premiere Date: July 5
Network: Disney+
Stars: Lee Sung Min (Reborn Rich), Kyung Soo Jin (Mouse), Lee Hak Joo (Artificial City)
Slot: Wednesday
Number Of Episodes: 8
Genre: Mystery, Drama
Synopsis: The first season showed how a veteran homicide detective starts getting calls from someone who frames him for murder. The second season sees the return of the detective as he now counterattacks the blackmailer/caller to investigate the mastermind behind it.
Thoughts: This show was on my plan list but somehow I didn’t get the time to watch it. It received good reviews so I’m still planning to check it out.
The Uncanny Counter 2 / The Uncanny Counter Season 2: Counter Punch

Premiere Date: July 29
Network: tvN, Netflix
Stars: Jo Byung Kyu (Stove League), Kim Se Jung (Business Proposal), Yoo Joon Sang (Alchemy Of Souls), Yeom Hye Ran (The Glory)
Slot: Saturday & Sunday
Number Of Episodes: 12
Genre: Action, Fantasy, Comedy
Synopsis: The demon hunters called “Counters” live on earth as employees of a noodle restaurant with the purpose of catching evil spirits. This season will see them becoming stronger by addition of new members and powers.
Thoughts: I did not watch the first season but the show garnered good reviews and certainly looks like a fun and thrilling ride.
Strangers/ Not Others

Premiere Date: July 17
Network: ENA
Stars: Jeon Hye Jin (Uncle), Sooyoung (If You Wish Upon Me), Ahn Jae Wook (The Empire), Park Sung Hoon (The Glory)
Slot: Monday & Tuesday
Number Of Episodes: 12
Genre: Comedy, Romance, Family
Synopsis: The cohabitation story about a careless, bubbly mother who is a physical therapist and a cool-headed daughter who is a police officer.
Thoughts: I love the role reversal trope where mother is the careless one while daughter is the mature one. I also like the main leading ladies a lot. And yay, Park Sung Hoon in a positive role in a lighter drama after The Glory. The drama is based on a webcomic.
Longing For You

Premiere Date: July 26
Network: ENA
Stars: Na In Woo (Jinxed At First), Kim Ji Eun (One Dollar Lawyer), Lee Kyu Han (She Would Never Know), Bae Jong Ok (Mr. Queen), Kwon Yool (Mental Coach Jegal)
Slot: Wednesday & Thursday
Number Of Episodes: 14
Genre: Crime, Mystery
Synopsis: It is about a detective in the countryside who wants to avenge on behalf of his younger brother.
Thoughts: The plot sounds quite generic but the setting of countryside is an interesting factor. If done well, it could turn out to be a gripping drama.
D.P. 2

Premiere Date: July 28
Network: Netflix
Stars: Jung Hae In (Snowdrop), Goo Kyo Hwan (Monstrous), Kim Sung Kyun (Divorce Attorney Shin), Son Seok Goo (My Liberation Notes)
Slot: All episodes released together.
Number Of Episodes: 6
Genre: Action, Drama
Synopsis: Season 2 of the show about a special military squad sent to chase down deserters.
Thoughts: I never tried the first instalment because I was worried it would be too disturbing. It received rave reviews though. The cast is amazing as well.
