The Drama Corner was inactive for past few days because I was extremely busy. Now I’m back to blogging and drama watching! Though we are already almost halfway into March, here is a brief summary of dramas that premiered/premiering this month:
Queen Of Tears

Premiere Date: March 9
Network: tvN, Netflix
Stars: Kim Soo Hyun (It’s Okay To Not Be Okay), Kim Ji Won (My Liberation Notes), Park Sung Hoon (The Kidnapping Day), Kwak Dong Yeon (Gaus Electronics), Lee Joo Bin (Money Heist: Korea)
Slot: Saturday & Sunday
Number Of Episodes: 16
Genre: Romance, Comedy, Drama
Synopsis: It is about a married couple — the husband being the legal director of a conglomerate group while the wife being its heiress — who stay together against all odds.
Thoughts: There are numerous factors to make me very excited for this drama — it is from the writer of popular shows like Crash Landing on You, My Love From the Star and The Producers, the top notch cast and a fresh story that starts where most shows end.
Midnight Photo Studio / The Midnight Studio

Premiere Date: March 11
Network: ENA
Stars: Joo Won (Stealer: The Treasure Keeper), Kwon Na Ra (Bulgasal: Immortal Souls), Yoo In Soo (Alchemy Of Souls), Eum Moon Suk (Good Job)
Slot: Monday & Tuesday
Number Of Episodes: 16
Genre: Romance, Drama, Fantasy
Synopsis: It is about a prickly photographer who is in charge of a photo studio that is run only for ghosts and a passionate lawyer who ends up running the photo studio with him.
Thoughts: I’m not exactly a fan of episodic dramas and the ones about ghosts have been done so many times already (for example, Master’s Sun). But this show looks funny and adventurous, so I do have some interest in it.
Wonderful World

Premiere Date: March 1
Network: MBC
Stars: Kim Nam Joo (Misty), Cha Eun Woo (A Good Day To Be A Dog), Kim Kang Woo (Artificial City), Im Se Mi (The Worst Of Evil)
Slot: Friday & Saturday
Number Of Episodes: 14
Genre: Mystery, Thriller
Synopsis: A woman, who is a psychology professor and a famous writer, seeks revenge against the person responsible for her son’s death when the culprit manages to evade punishment through the legal system. She gets involved with other people who suffer from similar pain as hers.
Thoughts: Revenge stories are aplenty in dramaland. Though this one sounds episodic. But the main factor that makes this drama standout — it is led by Kim Nam Joo — one of the most amazing actresses in dramaland.
Chicken Nugget

Premiere Date: March 15
Network: Netflix
Stars: Ryu Seung Ryong (Moving), Ahn Jae Hong (LTNS), Kim Yoo Jung (My Demon)
Slot: All episodes released together
Number Of Episodes: 10
Genre: Comedy, Fantasy
Synopsis: A man tries to bring back his daughter, who has turned into a chicken nugget after a mishap with a mysterious machine. He is helped by an intern in his company who has a crush on her.
Thoughts: I wasn’t interested after reading the synopsis but I’m very interested after watching the trailer — it was so funny.
Grabbed By The Collar / Nothing Uncovered

Premiere Date: March 18
Network: KBS
Stars: Kim Ha Neul (18 Again), Jang Seung Jo (Strangers Again), Yeon Woo Jin (Daily Dose Of Sunshine)
Slot: Monday & Tuesday
Number Of Episodes: 10
Genre: Crime, Thriller, Mystery
Synopsis: An investigative reporter (she is married to a second-generation chaebol and novelist) and an ace detective team up to solve a series of murders. They are also exes.
Thoughts: The drama is based on a popular web novel. It surely looks intriguing and the cast is great too.
Beauty And The Devoted / Beauty and Mr. Romantic

Premiere Date: March 23
Network: KBS
Stars: Im Soo Hyang (Kokdu: Season Of Deity), Ji Hyun Woo (Young Lady And Gentleman)
Slot: Saturday & Sunday
Number Of Episodes: 50
Genre: Romance, Drama, Family
Synopsis: A story about a top actress who hits rock bottom overnight and a PD who falls in love with her and tries to brings her back to the top.
Thoughts: The drama has a fresh premise for a weekend drama — a plus for sure. And I have fondness for Ji Hyun Woo since the time I watched Queen In Hyun’s Man (2012). But 50 episodes?!
Hide

Premiere Date: March 23
Network: JTBC
Stars: Lee Bo Young (Agency), Lee Moo Saeng (Maestra: Strings Of Truth), Lee Chung Ah (Celebrity), Lee Min Jae (Crash Course In Romance)
Slot: Saturday & Sunday
Number Of Episodes: 12
Genre: Thriller, Mystery
Synopsis: A woman tracks down the secrets surrounding her husband after he suddenly disappears one day.
Thoughts: This mystery thriller plot is just the kind of plot I enjoy in suspense stories — be it novels or movies or TV shows. So glad that dramaland is bringing more and more classic mystery thriller plots rather than serial killer thrillers for past 2-3 years.
The Escape of the Seven: Resurrection

Premiere Date: March 29
Network: SBS
Stars: Uhm Ki Joon (Penthouse), Hwang Jung Eum (Mystic Pop-up Bar), Lee Joon (Bloody Heart), Lee Yoo Bi (Yumi’s Cells), Shin Eun Kyung (Penthouse), Yoon Jong Hoon (Shooting Stars), Jo Yoon Hee (Pied Piper), Lee Jung Shin (Sh**ting Stars)
Slot: Saturday & Sunday
Number Of Episodes: 12
Genre: Thriller, Mystery, Drama
Synopsis: Season 2 will show the counterattack of the seven people who returned from hell to fight against new evil that has joined forces with the villain from season 1.
Thoughts: The drama has added CNBLUE’s Lee Jung Shin (Sh**ting Stars) to the cast. Season 1 was a hit but I didn’t watch the original so my excitement for this instalment is zero.
