I’m thrilled for so many Korean dramas this month! Also because I have not seen any Kdrama for past few months. So without further ado, let’s see what is arriving on our screens this month:
Genie Make A Wish

Premiere Date: October 3
Network: Netflix
Stars: Kim Woo Bin (Our Blues), Suzy (Doona!), Ahn Eun Jin (My Dearest), Noh Sang Hyun (Pachinko)
Slot: All episodes released together
Number Of Episodes: 12
Genre: Romance, Comedy, Fantasy
Synopsis: A mysterious spirit awakens after a thousand years to grant three life-changing wishes to a reserved young woman who comes into possession of a magical lamp. As he adapts to the modern world, an unexpected romance sparks between them.
Thoughts: This is a reunion for Kim Woo Bin and Suzy who starred opposite each other in 2016 melodrama Uncontrollably Fond. It is penned by top writer Kim Eun Sook. Quite a departure from her last drama, which was serious and dark melo The Glory. I’m not hugely excited for the show as the plot doesn’t interest me that much, even when I like both the main actors.
Typhoon Family

Premiere Date: October 11
Network: tvN
Stars: Lee Jun Ho (King The Land), Kim Min Ha (Pachinko), Sung Dong Il (Reply 1997), Kim Ji Young (Link: Eat, Love, Kill), Kim Min Seok (Mr. Plankton)
Slot: Saturday & Sunday
Number Of Episodes: 16
Genre: Drama, Business
Synopsis: The story of a rookie businessman who unexpectedly takes over a failing trading company with no staff, funds, or products—set against the backdrop of the 1997 IMF crisis.
Thoughts: I’m super excited for this show as the plot sounds so inspiring and adventurous — just my cup of tea. And it is headlined by my current favorite, Lee Jun Ho.
Would You Marry Me?

Premiere Date: October 10
Network: SBS
Stars: Choi Woo Shik (Melo Movie), Jung So Min (Love Next Door), Bae Na Ra (Weak Hero Class 2), Shin Seul Ki (The Haunted Palace), Seo Bum Joon (The First Night with the Duke)
Slot: Friday & Saturday
Number Of Episodes: 12
Genre: Romance, Comedy
Synopsis: It’s about a woman who, after breaking off her engagement with a cheating fiancé, enters a high-stakes 90-day fake marriage with another man sharing the same name, to win a luxury newlywed home.
Thoughts: I know I should be over the moon for this show — it has fake marriage trope and it stars two actors who I have greatly liked in the past. But both their last dramas were not something I liked much (Love Next Door) or even continued (Melo Movie). And it feels like I just recently watched those shows LOL. Still, I’m looking forward to this and definitely giving it a try. The OTP looks so pretty and charming together!
Moon River

Premiere Date: October 31
Network: MBC
Stars: Kang Tae Oh (Extraordinary Attorney Woo), Kim Se Jung (Business Proposal), Lee Shin Young (Crash Landing On You), Hong Soo Joo (Joseon Attorney), Jin Goo (The Auditors)
Slot: Friday & Saturday
Number Of Episodes: 14
Genre: Romance, Historical, Fantasy
Synopsis: A crown prince who can no longer smile and a woman with no memory have their souls mysteriously swapped, leading them to experience life through each other’s eyes.
Thoughts: Sounds like a historical drama that is right in my wheelhouse. I just hope the whole soul swapping plot doesn’t end in confusion or dissatisfaction (like it happens in many fantasy sageuks).
The Dream Life Of Mr. Kim

Premiere Date: October 25
Network: JTBC
Stars: Ryu Seung Ryong (Moving), Myung Se Bin (Missing Crown Prince), Cha Kang Yoon (Head Over Heels)
Slot: Saturday & Sunday
Number Of Episodes: 12
Genre: Comedy, Drama
Synopsis: It’s about a middle-aged man who loses all the things he once thought mattered most. As he navigates this loss, he discovers that his value isn’t tied to his high-powered corporate role, but rather to accepting and being true to who he really is.
Thoughts: I think this drama could be uplifting and motivating. Ryu Seung Ryong leading it surely adds a lot of points to its anticipation factor.
Spirit Fingers

Premiere Date: October 29
Network: TVING
Stars: Park Ji Hoo (Spring Of Youth), Jo Joon Young (Crushology 101), Choi Bo Min (18 Again), Park Yoo Na (True Beauty)
Slot: Wednesday
Number Of Episodes: 12
Genre: Romance, Comedy
Synopsis: It follows a shy and overlooked high school student with low self-esteem, as she finds acceptance and inspiration in a vibrant art club called Spirit Fingers.
Thoughts: Sounds cute but high school dramas are no longer something that excite me much to be honest.
Romantics Anonymous

Premiere Date: October 16
Network: Netflix
Stars: Oguri Shun (Rich Man, Poor Woman), Han Hyo Joo (Moving)
Slot: All episodes released together
Number Of Episodes: 8
Genre: Romance, Drama, Comedy
Synopsis: Love story between a gifted chocolatier who suffers from severe social anxiety and a fear of eye contact and a man scarred by trauma who cannot bear physical contact, who is the new owner of a renowned chocolate shop.
Thoughts: Technically this is a Japanese drama — I loved Oguri Shun in Rich Man, Poor Woman and I like Han Hyo Joo a lot too. I’m pumped to watch this.
