Frankly speaking, I am not an ardent fan of noona romances but there are some of them in my favorites list, so it’s not like I’m totally turned off towards them. The main thing is I should connect with the love story and the couple should be believable. I know there are so MANY of you who LOVE these and here is another one coming up to add in your plan. It’s titled Secret Love Affair and has cast Kim Hee Ae and Yoo Ah In in a steamy romance. This one looks like a promising pairing that can work because Yoo Ah In is efficient in both the spectrums of acting: he can be cute as a button (The Man Who Can’t Get Married) and he can be manly and mature (Sungkyunkwan Scandal) and the network is JTBC, so expect quality and more frankness in portrayal of romance! The team is from Kim Hee Ae’s last highly acclaimed drama A Wife’s Credentials which also aired on the same channel.

Secret Love Affair is about the affair (natch) between a 40 something woman and a 20 something man where she is a sophisticated director of an arts foundation while he is a genius pianist from poor background. Everytime I read this ‘genius’ word in almost all the descriptions of drama characters, I burst out laughing. It’s like a permanently attached qualifier. Anyway, the show is described as a thoughtful melodrama where the couple will have to keep its love a secret due to social pressures. Judging by the previous record, I’m guessing that we will get a nice take on the theme. Kim Hee Ae last appeared in the variety show Noona Over Flowers and Yoo Ah In was seen in sageuk Jang Ok Jung. I loved him in Sungkyunkwan Scandal where he was simply outstanding in every frame. Then I tried watching Fashion King but like everyone else, it became my first drama to gain position in the ‘dropped shows’ list. And I wasn’t happy with his role or acting there either. So I’m seriously hoping that Secret Love Affair will be worthy of the actor’s dramatic talents and will be a treat to watch. It premieres in March following Can We Love.
