Lee Jun Ki is back to dramaland! Last year he was outstanding in man-on-the-run thriller Two Weeks which was a great show in terms of fast pace, compelling action and thrills interspersed with emotional beats, making it one of the best dramas of the year. And a bit underrated as well. Anyway, Lee Jun Ki has confirmed his next drama in the form of historical Joseon Gunman which is set in the 19th century Joseon. He will play the role of an expert swordsman, who is the son of Joseon’s greatest swordsman. But he gives up his sword for gun when his father and sister are killed and he vows for revenge. Well, the story sounds a straight revenge tale but I’m sure there will be a lot more interesting and meaningful things involved in the plot. The show will take place in the era when modernisation and growth started coming into existence. Another actor to join the cast is Han Joo Wan who appeared last as the lead in blockbuster drama King’s Family.
Lee Jun Ki is well acquainted with the sageuk genre as his many dramas (Arang And The Magistrate, Iljimae) and movies (The King and the Clown) have all been under this category. Unfortunately, I haven’t seen any of them as the only things I’ve seen with lee Jun Ki are My Girl (where he was adorable) and Two Weeks. He is an actor who breathes lots of energy and believability in his characters. I’m excited for his next drama even when sageuks are not really my bag.
Joseon Gunman will be directed by the PD of highly acclaimed and loved historical series The Princess’ Man that came in 2011. That brings another plus point for the drama. But viewers will have to wait till June for enjoying this show as it will follow Golden Cross (that just premiered) on KBS and will take over the Wednesday-Thursday slot. Meanwhile, we can prepare a list of all our favorite actresses to star opposite Lee Jun Ki!
I am so excited for this one, LOVE LJK and I think this may be my return to sageuks after a long time 🙂
Same here….I’m not a sageuk fan but it’s LJK!! So I might check this out 🙂
