Contributing to the flood of reunions we are getting this year, the newest couple is Kwon Sang Woo and Choi Ji Woo who stole everyone’s heart and made the viewers cry with them in 2003’s superhit melodrama Stairway To Heaven. They are starring in upcoming SBS show Temptation with Park Ha Sun and Lee Jung Jin rounding out the cast. I think the early K-dramas that contributed in promoting Korean wave and were the foundation of it, were mostly melos with sad endings and so I haven’t seen any of them. My earliest drama dates back to 2002 and it’s My Love Patzzi which of course was a light, funny series. Coming back to Temptation, the story is quite intriguing with Kwon Sang Woo and Park Ha Sun playing husband and wife. Their happy married life becomes turbulent when they are mired in huge debts. Choi Ji Woo stars as a rich heiress who makes a complicated offer to Kwon Sang Woo’s character— she’ll clear his debts in exchange of total submission from him. Well, that surely sounds weird and it’s not clear what this major plot line means — something indecent or just making him work 24×7 a la 100 Days With Mr. Arrogant. Lee Jung Jin plays a rich playboy and Choi Ji Woo’s family friend who falls for Park Ha Sun’s character. I was only half interested in the drama but after Park Ha Sun joined the cast (love her), I’m definitely checking this out. I like that she is doing back to back dramas with variety in her characters and genres. It’s always great to see a reel life couple reuniting and that too after so many years. I do wanted Kwon Sang Woo to sign on a rom-com this time as most of his last roles were all serious ones but alas, Temptation is another complicated and serious stuff. The show is directed by the PD of Oh My Lady and Family Honour while the writer has penned Dr. Jin and Time Between Dog And Wolf. Temptation follows Doctor Stranger which has become a crazyville right now. The premiere date is 14 July.
