The forthcoming melodrama Glorious Temptation (or Dazzling Temptation) looks more and more like something that would be fit for a weekend slot — its 50 episode length and the premise, which looks like a collection of all lessons of a melodrama book. It will air on MBC and takes over the airing time from sageuk Hwajeong which was also a long drama.
Glorious Temptation is a story of a man and a woman who got separated after experiencing love in their teenage years. Choi Kang Hee (Heart To Heart) plays the woman who is also single mother of a 7-year-old girl while Joo Sang Wook (Wow, he surely is working non-stop with one drama after another — Masked Prosecutor, Birth Of A Beauty, Cunning Single Lady etc) plays the son of an assemblyman, clearly a rich person. The worlds of these two couldn’t be any more different as she also spent some time in prison.
The teenage counterparts are played by Kim Sae Ron (The Queen’s Classroom) and Nam Joo Hyuk (Who Are You — School 2015). Later, our hero gets engaged to Cha Ye Ryun (she played boring second lead in She’s So Lovable — but wait, that whole drama was like watching paint dry) who was also there in their lives when they were teenagers. Of course, their life will take a super dramatic turn when their world will collide in the present. So yes, childhood first love. Check. A miserable life for heroine. Check. Angsty reunion. Check. Jealous second female lead, Check. I’m sure we’ll be adding more to this list but suffice it to say that Glorious Temptation is your standard melo and frankly speaking, the plot sounds dated and I’m blasé about it.
On the upside, the kids portion looks cute. Also, Choi Kang Hee is sporting a great hairstyle and everything looks polished and good in quality. The leads are talented and the drama can be truly addicting and viewers can roll with the punches to get to the spicy and good stuff.
Glorious Temptation starts this coming Monday (along side two other premieres — Six Flying Dragons on SBS and Sassy Go, Go on KBS). It is penned by the writer of May Queen and Gold Rainbow (both shows seem very similar to Glorious Temptation) and directed by PD of Mama and 7 Grade Civil Servant.
