The sky high profile drama Mr. Sunshine — writer Kim Eun Sook (Secret Garden, Descendants Of The Sun, Goblin), leading man Lee Byung Hun (with a long list of films and dramas, not to mention Hollywood work under his belt), leading lady Kim Tae Ri (current It girl of film industry as she debuted with highly acclaimed The Handmaiden), second lead Yoo Yeon Seok (very popular since Answer Me 1994) — has added one more feather in its casting cap. Byun Yo Han has been confirmed to star in an important role in the drama. I LOVE him since his spectacular performance in Misaeng back in 2014. He has done many movies (Socialphobia, Madonna, Phantom Detective) and TV dramas (Six Flying Dragons, Ex-Girlfriends’ Club) since then and has cemented his position as one of the most talented young actors. I was not very keen on watching Mr. Sunshine, with a simple reason that I’m not a huge fan of either of the artists associated. I have enjoyed the humour in the writer’s works but never fell in love with them. Addition of Byun Yo Han has actually converted Mr. Sunshine‘s status from ‘on the fence’ to must watch.
Historical drama Mr. Sunshine will star Byun Yo Han as a guy who is immature and a playboy but has a warm heart. That’s pretty vague if we consider the description of other cast members where Lee Byung Hun plays a man who was taken away to the United States after an incident in 1871 when he was a kid. Years later, he returns and falls in love with the daughter of an aristocratic family.
Mr. Sunshine is yet to decide on its broadcaster and will premiere in early 2018.
