Angry Mom is a well-loved drama and still on my plan-to-watch list. It aired in 2015 and now its writer is coming up with a new drama for MBC titled Special Labor Inspector Jo. The show stars Kim Dong Wook in the titular role — so glad to see him finally playing lead roles after many years since his drama debut in Coffee Prince (2007); his last drama was well received thriller The Guest. Here he plays a former judo athlete who was righteous, spunky and hard-working but now works as a normal civil servant. His life changes when he is appointed as a labor inspector for the Ministry of Employment and Labor as his sense of justice returns. Park Se Young (Money Flower) plays his ex-wife who is a police officer. The other cast members include Ryu Duk Hwan (God’s Quiz) as an ace lawyer and Kim Kyung Nam (Come And Hug Me ) as our hero’s former student turned assistant.

The drama is being touted as a satire and I’m very interested in watching something which is trying to be different from the usual rom-com, melodrama or serial-killer-thriller tropes. The PD attached to Special Labor Inspector Jo previously directed sageuk Ruler: Master of the Mask and few daily dramas.

The drama will be a Monday-Tuesday show on MBC, premiering today following fantasy thriller Item.
