September does not have a lot of new Korean drama premieres but it does have a wide range of shows that are coming to our screens. From romance to comedy to action to historical to fantasy, everything is there! Also, many top and popular actors’ dramas are arriving this month too. So without further ado, here is the list of the new dramas:

A Love Other Than Yours

Premiere Date: September 12

Network: KBS

Stars: Seo Kang Joon (Undercover High School), Ahn Eun Jin (Dynamite Kiss), Lee Joo Ahn (Bon Appetit, Your Majesty), Jo Ah Ram (The Auditors)

Slot: Saturday & Sunday

Number Of Episodes: 14

Genre: Romance, Drama

Synopsis: A couple in their tenth year together faces unexpected emotional changes that challenge the familiarity of their long-term relationship.

Thoughts: I’m excited for this! I like the leads and the plot sounds like it will not be an idealistic rom-com. It seems to have lots of angst too!

Made In Korea 2

Premiere Date: September 9

Network: Disney+

Stars: Hyun Bin (Crash Landing On You), Jung Woo Sung (Tell Me You Love Me), Woo Do Hwan (Mr. Plankton), Seo Eun Soo (Chief Detective 1958), Won Ji Ahn (D.P.), Jung Sung Il (The Glory)

Slot: Wednesday

Number Of Episodes: 6

Genre: Action, Thriller, Mystery

Synopsis: Set in the 1970s, it centers around a man driven by ambition for wealth and power, and a prosecutor who sacrifices everything to stop him. Season 2 is set nine years later — now the man is at the peak of power and the prosecutor has been preparing a counterattack.

Thoughts: I have not seen season 1 yet, though I plan to (I mean that top-notch cast!) — some day LOL. Hence my interest at this point is very low.

The Ordinary Jackpot

Premiere Date: September 10

Network: TVING, tvN

Stars: Lee Joon Hyuk (The Art Of Sarah), Seo Hyun Woo (Our Movie), Oh Dae Hwan (My Troublesome Star)

Slot: Thursday (TVING), Monday & Tuesday (tvN)

Number Of Episodes: 10

Genre: Drama

Synopsis: It follows a salaryman who continues his corporate life with a newfound sense of psychological security and boldness after winning the lottery jackpot.

Thoughts: This sounds interesting! It is giving me feels of Misaeng (one of my most favorite shows ever!). Hopefully it is a good show regardless of any similarities or differences.

The Scandal

Premiere Date: September 18

Network: Netflix

Stars: Son Ye Jin (Crash Landing On You), Ji Chang Wook (Healer), Nana (Climax)

Slot: All episodes released together

Number Of Episodes: 8

Genre: Romance, Historical, Drama

Synopsis: Based on French novel Les Liaisons dangereuses, the show is about a noblewoman and a wealthy aristocrat who form an agreement to manipulate romantic relationships for their own purposes, testing the boundaries of social convention. She challenges him to win over a young widow who is devoted to a life of chastity after her husband’s death.

Thoughts: This novel has so many adaptations in the form of movies and TV shows (Dangerous Liaisons [1988], Cruel Intentions [1999], Korean movie Untold Scandal [2003]) over the years. I’m definitely going to watch this — mostly for the cast but also to see how it delivers after having watched previous versions of this story. It will be interesting to see how they portray this plot in the dramaverse as the plot is kind of risqué.

Dive Into You

Premiere Date: September 26

Network: Disney+

Stars: Bona (The Haunted Palace), Park Seo Ham (Our Universe), Jang Se Hyuk (Bitch X Rich), Moon Seung You (Would You Marry Me?)

Slot: Saturday & Sunday

Number Of Episodes: 12

Genre: Romance, Fantasy, Comedy

Synopsis: An A-list actress unexpectedly ends up swapping bodies with her twin brother. After learning that they can travel back in time using an old camcorder, the twins return to the past and attempt to prevent the death of her first love.

Thoughts: The plot sounds like Lovely Runner — the difference being body swap and two people travelling in time, trying to save someone instead of two. I’m not sure how the mixing of two fantasy genres would turn out to be. Hopefully not a hot mess!
