Period drama ‘Flower Crew: Joseon Marriage Agency’ arrives on JTBC this month

I have to say I’m not exactly a fan of sageuks (Korean historical TV dramas for the uninitiated) but I do love some fusion in them (Sungkyunkwan Scandal, Moonlight Drawn By Clouds) and the new JTBC drama Flower Crew: Joseon Marriage Agency looks like it is fitting that bill. It is based on a 2014 novel and is about a king who employs the help of a matchmaking company to get married to his first love. I’m on board already!

Seo Ji Hoon (School 2017) plays a man who was previously a blacksmith but is now a king. Gong Seung Yun (Are You Human Too?) is his first love but now that he is the King of Joseon, he cannot get married to a girl from a non royal background. Thus, he takes help from a matchmaking agency to transform her into a noble woman. The matchmakers are played by Kim Min Jae (Goblin) β€” the leader, Park Ji Hoon (of pop group Wanna One) and and Byun Woo Suk (Search: WWW).

I’m not sure if the drama will have any resemblance to Cyrano Agency (the movie). It will be airing on Mondays and Tuesdays and is adapted by the writer of the source novel. The show looks like a lot of fun and just right up my alley! It starts on September 16th.

I used to really like sageuks but it’s been a long while since I’ve watched one I truly love. Most sageuks of the past few years have not been my cup of tea at all. I’ve no interest in this one either. From what I can see it’s just a romcom dressed up in a sageuk garb and I’m not really a fan of Korean romcoms. Looks rather too fluffy too. πŸ˜€

” it’s just a romcom dressed up in a sageuk garb”
      Totally true! LOL.
I do love K-rom-coms…hehe..hnec, my interest.
My sageuk list is way too short (and almost all have been fusion sageuks), so this makes a perfect choice.
But I’m seeing very less sageuks these days…I wonder why.

I like fusion sageuks too (well, most historicals actually, lol). This one looks really cute and fun, so I’m definitely looking forward to it πŸ™‚
