Mystery thriller is one of my all time favourite genres and the upcoming thriller movie Diva sounds intriguing. It is headlined by Shin Min Ah and Lee Yoo Young. I love that the movie is directed by a woman and has two female actors as the main leads.

The film is set in the world of diving sport with Shin Min Ah playing the ‘diva’ of the diving world. Lee Yoo Young plays her best friend and fellow diver. Their characters both meet with a mysterious accident which results in the former losing her memories and the latter going missing. The film then unfolds with Shin Min Ah’s character trying to regain her abilities and position while dealing with the loss of her friend and the trauma. All of this leads to her losing her grip on reality. The movie also stars Lee Kyu Hyung (Forest Of Secrets, Prison Playbook) as a diving coach.

Shin Min Ah was last seen in drama Chief of Staff while Lee Yoo Young starred in The Lies Within. I have liked Shin Min Ah ever since I first saw her in My Girlfriend Is A Gumiho but I haven’t seen Lee Yoo Young in anything yet, though Tunnel is on my watch-list. Come to think of it, she has acted in a lot of thrillers.

Diva is helmed by Jo Seul Ye and this is her debut movie as a director. It surely looks like a psychologically thrilling ride and the world of diving provides a fresh edge to it. The movie releases on September 23.
