The title of this new tvN drama sounds so much like My Girlfriend Is A Gumiho! Just replace girlfriend with roommate. I hope this one is as cute and fun as that 2010 drama starring Shin Min Ah and Lee Seung Gi. My Roommate Is A Gumiho is arriving tomorrow in the Wednesday-Thursday slot following thriller Mouse.

Gumiho means a mythical nine-tailed fox. Based on a 2017 webtoon, the show stars Jang Ki Yong as a 999 year old male gumiho who relies on a bead to collect human energy in order to become human. But one day, a college student, played by Hyeri, accidentally swallows that bead. Now both have to somehow live together in order to solve this problem. I love this premise, which seems to be full of comic and romantic shenanigans. Kang Ha Na and Kim Do Wan from Start-Up costar — she plays hero’s friend and a gumiho herself, and he plays a man in love with her. Bae In Hyuk (The Spies Who Loved Me) rounds out the cast as the heroine’s college senior. The drama is set in a college, so that’s another bonus.

Jang Ki Yong has gained a lot of popularity since starring in dramas like Come and Hug Me and Search: WWW, while Kpop group Girl’s Day‘s Hyeri gained praise for her performance in Reply 1988 (2015) but hasn’t seen that kind of success in acting since then, with follow-up shows like Entertainer, Two Cops and Miss Lee. The two leads have worked together before in 2014’s teen mystery drama Seonam Girls High School Investigators.

tvN is known for quality romantic comedies and with the writers of cute, light-hearted shows like A Poem A Day, High Kick 3 and Rude Miss Young Ae on board, I’m excited for this drama.
