Horror dramas are relatively rare in dramaland but TVING is bringing a supernatural show called Monstrous this week. The show is about archaeologists trying to solve the case of a mysterious Buddha statue found in a village.
A rural setting definitely adds intrigue in a horror story. Goo Gyo Hwan, of drama D.P. and movies Escape from Mogadishu and Jane, stars as an eccentric archaeologist who studies bizarre phenomena. He runs a YouTube channel on the same and is called for the aforementioned case. Shin Hyun Bin of Hospital Playlist fame plays an archaeologist who researches symbols and letters. Both characters experience weird phenomena when they investigate the case of the statue.
Nam Da Reum (Start-Up) plays son of the village’s police chief and Kwak Dong Yun (Vincenzo) plays the trouble maker.
Monstrous is written by the director of acclaimed movies like Train To Busan and Peninsula, and the writer of shows like Psychopath Diary and Liar Game. The writing team looks very impressive and surely increases my excitement for the drama.
Monstrous premieres on TVING on April 29.
This seems to lean a bit too much towards horror for my taste, but… a great cast. Guess I’ll wait for first impressions and see if it’s worth checking out regardless.
Yes! Looks more on the horror side. I’ll wait for your thoughts!
