Remakes of American TV shows are nothing new in dramaland and one more Korean drama is joining the list with Woori The Virgin. It’s a remake of popular TV show Jane The Virgin that aired from 2014 to 2019 with five seasons. It was originally based on a Venezuelan TV series of the same name. The story is about a woman who wants to maintain her virginity until marriage but she gets pregnant via artificial insemination, as a result of a doctor’s mistake.
Im Soo Hyang of My ID Is Gangnam Beauty fame plays the main lead, with Shin Dong Wook (Soulmate) playing her boyfriend. Sung Hoon (Oh My Venus) plays the biological father of the baby the main lead gets pregnant with. He is the CEO of a cosmetic company. His wife is played by Hong Ji Yoon (My Country). He wants a divorce from her.
The setting looks very interesting. I have not seen the original show but have read good things about it. Woori The Virgin just premiered this Monday on SBS. It has a total of 14 episodes – which surprises me since the original show has 5 seasons worth of episodes. The Korean adaptation is penned by the director of shows like Flower Boy Ramyun Shop and Flower Boy Next Door. It airs on Mondays and Tuesdays.
