We are in December already! Where did the time go? As we try to find time to catch up on the 2023 drama list, we have more new dramas to add to it! December brings lots of shows of all kinds of genres and many of them sound interesting. Check below to see if anything piques your interest:

Welcome to Samdal-ri

Premiere Date: December 2

Network: jTBC, Netflix

Stars: Ji Chang Wook (The Worst Of Evil), Shin Hye Sun (See You In My 19th Life)

Slot: Saturday & Sunday

Number Of Episodes: 16

Genre: Romance, Comedy

Synopsis: Two childhood friends who grew up together in Jeju Island, get separated when the woman moves to Seoul to fulfil her ambition of becoming a fashion photographer and the man stays behind. They reunite and reconnect when she returns to her hometown after her life suddenly falls apart.

Thoughts: This trope is totally my cup of coffee! Add two leads who I have liked in the past and gorgeous location — I’m definitely watching it!

Maestra: Strings of Truth

Premiere Date: December 9

Network: tvN

Stars: Lee Young Ae (Dae Jang Geum), Lee Moo Saeng (The Glory)

Slot: Saturday & Sunday

Number Of Episodes: 12

Genre: Music, Thriller, Mystery, Drama

Synopsis: A brilliant and legendary female conductor uncovers truths hidden within her orchestra, due to certain mysterious circumstances surrounding it, while hiding secrets of her own.

Thoughts: I initially thought it would be a drama show about a female conductor and her journey and struggles, but the thriller element has piqued my interest. And powerhouse actor Lee Young Ae headlining it is surely the main feature of this drama. It is based on the French series Philharmoni.

Death’s Game

Premiere Date: December 15

Network: TVING

Stars: Seo In Guk (Café Minamdang), Park So Dam (Record Of Youth)

Slot: Friday

Number Of Episodes: 8

Genre: Thriller, Drama, Fantasy

Synopsis: A man gets more than one second chance at life after facing death — 12 cycles of life and death.

Thoughts: I was super excited for this show because Seo In Guk is one of my favorite Korean actors. But the plot sounds like he will not have a lot of screentime as he keeps living different lives, hence lots of cameos on the show (Kim Ji Hoon, Choi Si Won, Go Yoon Jung, Lee Jae Wook, Lee Do Hyun, Go Yoon Jung, Kim Jae Wook, Oh Jung Se to name a few) — which is certainly an attraction but I wanted more Seo In Guk! It also sounds episodic.

My Happy End/ My Happy Ending

Premiere Date: December 30

Network: TV Chosun

Stars: Jang Na Ra (Oh My Baby), Son Ho Joon (The First Responders)

Slot: Saturday & Sunday

Number Of Episodes: 16

Genre: Thriller, Mystery, Drama

Synopsis: It is about a woman who chases after success (as a result of an unfortunate childhood) and her husband who gets swept up in her intense desires.

Thoughts: The main attraction for me is Jang Na Ra playing a role and genre different from her past dramas which have mostly been rom-coms.

Sweet Home 2

Premiere Date: December 1

Network: Netflix

Stars: Song Kang (Nevertheless), Lee Jin Wook (Welcome To Wedding Hell), Lee Si Young (Risky Romance), Park Gyu Young (A Good Day To Be A Dog), Go Min Si (Love Alarm)

Slot: Friday (all episodes released together)

Number Of Episodes: 8

Genre: Horror, Fantasy

Synopsis: A high school student moves into an apartment building where humans suddenly start transforming into monsters. Season 2 will be about how the survivors struggle to survive after leaving that building.

Thoughts: I never watched season 1 so my interest in watching this is 0. But people have said good things about the first installment so hoping this one is good too.

Gyeongseong Creature (Part 1)

Premiere Date: December 22

Network: Netflix

Stars: Park Seo Joon (Itaewon Class), Han So Hee (Nevertheless), Wi Ha Joon (Squid Game), Claudia Kim (Chimera)

Slot: Friday (all episodes released together)

Number Of Episodes: 7

Genre: Action, Thriller, Historical, Sci-Fi

Synopsis: In the year 1945, during the Japanese colonization of Korea, an entrepreneur and a sleuth fight against a monstrous creature born as a result of greed.

Thoughts: The historical setting adds fresh layer to fighting-against-monster plot + the cast and characters make it intriguing. Bonus: Wi Ha Joon ❤️!!

Soundtrack #2

Premiere Date: December 6

Network: Disney+

Stars: Geum Sae Rok (The Interest Of Love), Noh Sang Hyun (Behind Every Star)

Slot: Wednesday

Number Of Episodes: 6

Genre: Music, Romance

Synopsis: Two exes, a piano tutor and a CEO, meet again by chance.

Thoughts: Exes to lovers may not be my topmost favourite romance trope but I do like it sometimes. And the two leads have been great in their past dramas. I’m watching it!

Like Flowers In Sand

Premiere Date: December 20

Network: ENA, Netflix

Stars: Jang Dong Yoon (Oasis), Lee Joo Myung (Twenty-Five Twenty-One), Kim Bo Ra (Touch)

Slot: Wednesday & Thursday

Number Of Episodes: 12

Genre: Sports, Drama, Romance, Comedy

Synopsis: Ssireum is a traditional Korean wrestling sport. A former genius ssireum wrestler, whose career has declined since then, is thinking about retiring. One day, he meets his childhood friend who begins to work as the management team leader for his ssireum team. Thus begins the journey of growth for him and his team which was on the verge of disbanding.

Thoughts: Sounds like a typical inspiring sports story but I’m a sucker for it. The childhood friends angle surely adds freshness to it.

My Man is Cupid

Premiere Date: December 1

Network: Prime Video

Stars: Jang Dong Yoon (Oasis), Nana (Mask Girl), Park Ki Woong (Pandora: Beneath the Paradise)

Slot: Friday & Saturday

Number Of Episodes: 8

Genre: Romance, Comedy, Fantasy

Synopsis: A fairy falls in love after being accidentally shot by his own arrow.

Thoughts: This show has been in the making since a long time but got released only recently. Even with popular names in the lead roles, it didn’t get any buzz because of the delay. The synopsis sounds cute though!

Between Him And Her

Premiere Date: December 26

Network: Channel A

Stars: Lee Dong Hae (Oh! Young Shim), Lee Sul (D.P.)

Slot: Tuesday

Number Of Episodes: 16

Genre: : Romance, Drama

Synopsis: A realistic and relatable take on romance that talks about simultaneous emotions of boredom and affection that exist for long-term couples.

Thoughts: I’m not really a fan of “lead couple already in love during the start” plots. But realistic and relatable sound interesting and I wonder what new things the drama will have in store for the viewers since it basically starts where other shows end.

Night Has Come

Premiere Date: December 4

Network: U+mobiletv

Stars: Lee Jae In (Racket Boys), Kim Woo Seok (Finland Papa), Choi Ye Bin (Penthouse), Cha Woo Min (Weak Hero Class 1)

Slot: Monday

Number Of Episodes: 12

Genre: Thriller, Mystery, Horror

Synopsis: Second-year high school students are suddenly forced to play mafia games in real life during their retreat.

Thoughts: It sounds super intriguing and creepy.
