Netflix is bringing a sci-fi horror Korean drama today — title is Parasyte: The Grey. It is about unidentified parasites who violently take over human hosts and start to gain power, and how humanity must rise to combat the growing threat. The premise has been used profusely in so many movies. But it is one of those tropes that always works if writing and direction is taut.
Parasyte: The Grey is an adaptation of legendary manga (graphic novel) series Parasyte by Hitoshi Iwaaki that ran from 1988 to 1995. Jeon So Nee (Our Blooming Youth) plays a woman who is attacked by the parasite but it failed to take over her brain. So now she lives in a bizarre coexistence with it. Koo Kyo Hwan (D.P.) plays a man who is on a mission to track down the parasites in order to find his missing sister. Lee Jung Hyun (Beautiful Days) plays the team leader of Team Grey, a special unit that is created for battling and eradicating parasites. Kwon Hae Hyo (King Of Dramas) plays a senior detective at Namil Police Station and Kim In Kwon (You’re Beautiful) stars as a junior detective.
The show is created by Yeon Sang Ho who has written dramas like Hellbound and The Cursed, and Ryu Yong Jae who has penned shows like Liar Game and Pied Piper.
