There aren’t a lot of new dramas premiering in September. But there is a variety in the types of shows that are coming to our screen this month. Let’s have a look at them:

The Judge from Hell

Premiere Date: September 21

Network: SBS

Stars: Park Shin Hye (Doctor Slump), Kim Jae Young (Love In Contract)

Slot: Saturday & Sunday

Number Of Episodes: 16

Genre: Fantasy, Romance, Crime

Synopsis: A demon from hell enters the body of a judge. Her work is to send the evil people who have no remorse to hell. After meeting a gentle and compassionate detective, she embarks on a journey to becoming a true judge.

Thoughts: The premise sounds interesting and I really like Park Shin Hye, and this looks like a role different from her previous ones.

Seoul Busters

Premiere Date: September 11

Network: Disney+

Stars: Kim Dong Wook (Delightfully Deceitful), Park Ji Hwan (My Lovely Boxer), Seo Hyun Woo (A Shop For Killers), Park Se Wan (Doona!), Lee Seung Woo (Our Beloved Summer)

Slot: Wednesday

Number Of Episodes: 12

Genre: Comedy, Crime

Synopsis: It’s about the transformation of the country’s lowest-ranking violent crimes unit into the nation’s top team after they are paired with an elite new leader.

Thoughts: I love stories where we see growth of an underperforming team into an excellent one. And if it’s punctuated with comedy, it’s such a winner!

Dear Hyeri

Premiere Date: September 23

Network: ENA

Stars: Shin Hye Sun (Welcome To Samdalri), Lee Jin Wook (Sweet Home), Kang Hoon (A Time Called You)

Slot: Monday & Tuesday

Number Of Episodes: 12

Genre: Romance, Drama

Synopsis: It’s about an announcer who develops dissociative identity disorder following the disappearance of her younger sibling and her breakup with her longtime boyfriend.

Thoughts: The plot looks fresh and I love Shin Hye Sun. But fresh doesn’t always means interesting. So my excitement for the series is mild.

Iron Family

Premiere Date: September 28

Network: KBS

Stars: Kim Jung Hyun (Mr. Queen), Geum Sae Rok (The Interest Of Love), Choi Tae Joon (So I Married An Anti-Fan), Yang Hye Ji (Revenant)

Slot: Saturday & Sunday

Number Of Episodes: 36

Genre: Drama, Comedy, Romance

Synopsis: The show revolves around a family that has run a laundry business for three generations but they somehow end up ironing money instead of clothes.

Thoughts: Kim Jung Hyun and Geum Sae Rok have really impressed me in their previous shows but this one is a family weekend drama — which is not really my go-to drama type.

Gyeongseong Creature 2

Premiere Date: September 27

Network: Netflix

Stars: Park Seo Joon (Itaewon Class), Han So Hee (Nevertheless), Lee Moo Saeng (Blood Free), Bae Hyun Sung (Miraculous Brothers)

Slot: All episodes released together

Number Of Episodes: 7

Genre: Action, Thriller, Historical, Sci-Fi

Synopsis: In the year 1945, during the Japanese colonization of Korea, an entrepreneur and a sleuth fight against a monstrous creature born as a result of greed.

Thoughts: Part 1 received mixed reviews and I didn’t watch it because I read that it is full of gore.

What Comes After Love

Premiere Date: September 27

Network: Coupang Play

Stars: Lee Se Young (The Story Of Park’s Marriage Contract), Sakaguchi Kentaro (CODE: Negai no Daisho), Hong Jong Hyun (Race)

Slot: Friday

Number Of Episodes: 6

Genre: Romance

Synopsis: A love story of a Korean woman and a Japanese man who meet and fall in love in Japan, then reunite in Korea five years after their breakup.

Thoughts: The promo of this drama reminds me of the early 2000s melo romance shows that used to populate dramaland back then. The synopsis sounds like a typical exes-to-lovers romance but a romantic show is all about chemistry and execution and the fact that leads belong to Japan and South Korea definitely gives a freshness to the show.

Dog Knows Everything

Premiere Date: September 25

Network: KBS

Stars: Lee Soon Jae (Money Flower), Kim Yong Gun (Cinderella And The Four Knights), Ye Soo Jung (Apgujeong Midnight Sun), Park Sung Woong (Unlock My Boss), Yeonwoo (Bitter Sweet Hell)

Slot: Wednesday & Thursday

Number Of Episodes: 12

Genre: Drama, Comedy, Sitcom

Synopsis: It’s about a veteran actor who moves to Geoje Island after a scandal. There he starts to investigate incidents that occur in the neighborhood with the help of a former police dog named Sophie.

Thoughts: This one sounds so cute! I might check it out. Kudos to the drama for making senior citizens as its main leads.
