It’s not like the dramaland has couples who get on like a house on fire but the upcoming medical rom-com Emergency Couple has released promotional materials in which leads Choi Jin Hyuk and Song Ji Hyo are constantly and relentlessly fighting and bickering and taking it to another level of locking horns with each other. The new tvN drama is basically about second chances in love where a divorced couple meets again and of course arguments and sparks follow.
Choi Jin Hyuk plays a medical student who falls for dietician Song Ji Hyo and they get married against the wishes of his well off family of doctors and he gives up his medical internship and becomes a pharmaceutical salesman to support himself and his wife when the family cuts him off. He hates this job while inferiority complex takes its roots in her when she struggles to find job. They start having arguments and fight like cat and dog till they decide to take divorce. Six years later, both of them after continuing their medical studies, meet as interns in the same hospital’s emergency room. The show also stars Lee Pil Mo, Choi Yeo Jin and Clara in supporting roles.
Emergency Couple will be taking the Friday-Saturday slot on tvN from 24 January and will have a total of 20 episodes. I like rom-coms but I can’t say that about medical dramas. Though the medical theme looks more like a set-up here. The story of love striking again for a separated pair is nothing new but the chemistry and treatment can lift the narrative by several notches. I like the feel-good and frolicsome vibe I’m getting from the stills and posters.
Ooh, the additional details are intriguing! It’s like they’re taking a typical rom-com setup and looking into what happens after the happily-ever-after. (I like that they’re dealing with career-balancing — that can be a tough one for any couple.)
“It’s like they’re taking a typical rom-com setup and looking into what happens after the happily-ever-after”….you are so right about it….we always see the couples facing problems before their union, so it will be a nice take to see what happens afterwards…and yes, career balancing is something mostly ignored in dramas; I hope we’ll be getting something different here 🙂
