Forget about the current hot drama trends of noona romance and ‘second chances in love’ : my vote goes to drama couples reunion, as we might be getting another reunion on the heels of Lee Dong Wook and Lee Da Hae‘s repeat pairing. Jang Hyuk and Jang Nara have been courted to star in Korean remake of superhit Taiwanese drama Fated To Love You. I’ll be getting happiness of warm christmas carols if this happens for two main reasons— firstly, this casting can pave the way for more such reunions of actors (a thing as rare as finding an ice-cube in Sahara desert except a few exceptions) and secondly, I like both the actors and it was 12 years ago in 2002 that they appeared together in the hit drama Successful Story of a Bright Girl, which also has the special feature of Jang Hyuk starring in a romantic comedy. So, all the fans of that show might be praying right now for the confirmation. (On a side note, let’s all do the same for our beloved drama couples, for me the first one is of course Jae Hee and Han Chae Young!)
So Fated To Love You came in 2008 and has one of my favorite tropes aka marriage of convenience at its centre— an unfashionable girl and a rich heir have a one night stand resulting in girl getting pregnant and then they are forced to marry each other. The K-remake will be broadcast on MBC as the Wednesday-Thursday drama with an eye for the summer premiere.
Both the sides are considering positively and let’s hope that they confirm as it would be a treat to see Jang Hyuk in a rom-com plus I like Jang Nara who delivered a heartwarming performance in last year’s School 2013.
P.S. I wanted to embed a picture from Successful Story of a Bright Girl but Jang Hyuk’s hairstyle in it didn’t allow me to do so. LOL.

I’m having all sort of feelings with this news, all sorts! First I was in panic! rom com? I kind of run away from them, but I liked Bright Girl, which was so silly and cliche and wonderful, I liked this couple, so cute! I know Jang Hyuk has been wanting to do a rom com for a long time, so he will be inspired, and he is always very hard working but what is better than a actor doing what inspires him? But then the premise scared me, isn’t he too “mature” for this role? I thought, but then I read that the character is not supposed to be a winner, right? the girlfriend rejects him or something? so him not being so young could actually work as a twist? I also read he is not a jerk and I sigh in relief! I don’t like rich jerks in dramas trope! I can’t stand it anymore. So a rich gentle guy? I can stand, and can they make him dorkish? That would be adorbs! Then the heroine worried me, because I read she has no self esteem, but apparently she is kind of adorable and I know Jang Nara can do adorable. Plus a character with no self esteem that evolves could be wonderful. So yeah, I’m getting enthusiastic, and I read many good responses both to the pairing and to the drama itself. But I don’t want to think too much before it is confirmed (kinda failing at this as you can see)

Breathe dramafan lol! It’ll be ok. I think it’ll be an awesome drama but I’m also getting ahead of myself since it hasn’t yet been confirmed. If they do this, they’ll put their own twist on the characters I’m sure and make it a joy to watch.

It’s always a great feeling when the actors reunite….so I hope they’ll confirm their roles and we’ll get to see some JH and JN awesomeness!!

I hope they confirm too 🙂

Awww….Dramafan….you are so sweet with your Jang Hyuk love 😉 I did read the description but I’ll be waiting for the confirmations to comment on it….I would love it if he plays a gentleman but actually the cold jerks who turn into good persons are one of the cliched characters that I love…lol….it will definitely be refreshing to see JH in a rom-com…..crossing fingers!!

And lol at the hair comment! orange does not fit your blog theme does it? lol! The hair is what stopped me from watching it so long! but when I did I noticed it wasn’t that orange all the time lol! I have some decent screen caps in case you ever need them in the future ha!
snow_white said:
LOL…I do need them!! Actually I haven’t seen Bright Girl yet due to the same reason: the hair and style…haha…is it worth giving a try??
I do confess of my increasing Jang Hyuk admiration as I keep on reading the posts related to him on yours and other blogs….as the only thing I remembered of him was the movie Please Teach Me English and that too a long time ago…..so it’s like I’m being introduced to his charisma all over again…and this is just from the pics, I don’t know what will happen when I’ll actually watch him in a drama 😉

I would recommend his better work first. Bright Girl is a bit old, and while charming, you really do need to be in the mood for it. I would encourage you to watch Thank You first in which btw he is a jerk at first 😋 If you like that one then maybe Robbers. Where he plays a different kind of “jerk”. He is not rich, but he is so much more scum than your typical kdrama lead and his transformation is oh so awesome! Yeah I would leave Bright Girl for when you already saw him at his best and orange hair can be tolerated 😜

Watching his better dramas first will certainly help in sitting through his not-so-great look 😉

Fated to Love You is one of those few Taiwanese dramas I enjoyed though it was just too long… I hope they push through with this!
snow_white said:
I haven’t seen any TW dramas yet…but I’ve read that they tend to extend their episodes when receive high ratings…but I guess the K-version is only 16 eps long, so that might be a good thing!
Caitlyn said:
I definitely agree with Prima above that Fated to Love You was too long. That’s one of the reasons I rarely watch Tw-dramas. I can see it making an enjoyable K-drama though so i’m cautiously optimistic. I have absolutely no opinion one way or the other on the cast though, lol, although I liked Jang Nara in School 2013. I’ve never seen Jang Hyuk in anything.
snow_white said:
I haven’t seen him any drama but he was cute in the movie Please Teach Me English…plus, I do find him attractive in all his pictures (yes, the shallow me :P)
I do think that a 16 ep series will be just fine enough rather than unnecessary extensions…

Bright Girl wasnt cliche back in 2002 but since it became pretty much the blueprint for like 90% of every Korean comedy/romance/ drama made since then one can see why it often called so. I do not think age is a worry, Joe Chen was 28 when she made Fated and Jang Nara can play five years younger standing on her head, the younger male lead will i think an older one suits Korea more, where most guys look to marry at 30 year and plus.
I found Fated the most Korean like drama of any TW drama I have seen, though that saying a lot as most TW drama play like a live cartoon..lol
snow_white said:
Oh yes….the older dramas are the ones that started the current trend of rom-coms….and I like them even if they have not-so-good fashion….they have their own charm…
Jang Nara looks so young for her age….she can definitely play a younger woman…
I like the premise of Fated To Love YOu (though I haven’t seen the drama itself)…and it does sound very kdrama type 🙂

ahhaha!!!. Jang Hyuk on dramaland?…seriously insane!…he has two movies on queue and here he comes for a full length drama on small screen?…YA!…we will never have the time to rest on kdrama watching!…I watched the T-drama of Fated to love and i love it…Ethan Ruan playing the lead is awesome..i find him cute and good in portraying the male lead and i enjoyed it much…Jang Hyuk and jang Nara pairing for K-version?…Is this already confirmed?.
snow_white said:
No….it’s not confirmed yet….hopefully they will sign the drama as I like both of them 🙂
I have no idea about TW actors but I do find them cute whenever I see their pictures on various sites or blogs… *oh the shallow side of me* 😉
