KBS is struggling from a few weeks to lock down the cast for its upcoming medical fantasy drama Blood with lead roles floating from Jung Il Woo to Yoo Yeon Seok and finally it has succeeded in confirming the main leads in Ahn Jae Hyun and Gu Hye Sun. Now this is one pair I would never have expected (points for surprise!) and now this out-of-left-field casting has increased my interest in the show. Ji Jin Hee (One Warm Word) has already been cast along with Kwon Hyun Sang, who I remember played one of the South Korean contestants in The King 2 Hearts along with Lee Seung Gi and Ha Ji Won in WOC.
I found Ahn Jae Hyun really cute in the latter half of You From Another Star (he played Jeon Ji Hyun‘s younger brother) after remaining indifferent to him in initial episodes. He later starred in You’re All Surrounded and movie Fashion King. But I think it’s way too early for him to lead a drama as a hero. He hasn’t even played any proper second leads yet. I wonder what compelled the network to cast him as main lead. Anyway, I’ve only seen Gu Hye Sun in Boys Before Flowers and I wasn’t impressed by her much but her last drama Angel Eyes did wonders to improve her image in my mind, I liked her a lot in whatever stills and teasers I saw of that melo romance and that makes me hopeful that I might like her here. I never imagined these two together and that makes me eager to find out the end result of this.
That said, I do find the plot intriguing. Our hero plays a vampire and a doctor (yeah, that should not come in the same line for the same person) who is cold on the outside but actually has a warm heart and desires closeness with other people. He is a firm believer of human life and hence, suppresses his urge to suck their blood. Thus all he wants is to save lives. Gu Hye Sun will star as a genius physician (yay that for once we have a heroine as a geniuuuuuus) who is the niece of the rich man who owns the hospital (oh I’m loving this role reversal!). She is bold and bossy.
Ji Jin hee plays the main villain who is all good guy on the outside but is dangerously ambitious in reality. Finally, Kwon Hyun Sang has taken on the role of a bad vampire. I actually think the show has a nice set-up for some thrills, excitement and fun attached with all vampire-y stuff. Also, Blood comes from the team behind Good Doctor (the PD has also directed Ojakgyo Brothers and That Fool while the writer wrote God’s Quiz franchise), which was a hit and loved by many even if I skipped it.
Blood will hit the airwaves from February following Healer which starts this coming Monday.
The plot is bizarre, i haven’t made up my mind, although it would be have fun to find out about a vampire doctor’s life. He’d be doing only night shifts? And would he apply to the moral laws of doctors? Or it would be something like, hm, new patient, suck him dry or treat him? Hm, new blood donations, should i take one bottle at home? What if a patient needs it? From which blood team should i get blood? The one i like the most or the least rare to be found? Ah! This patient’s suffering from hemorrhage! It’s such a same for so much blood to get wasted! Should i drink it? In fact i haven’t made my mind yet in terms of 2015 dramas, i’ll be checking somewhere around a week’s time before a drama starts airing or something.
hahaha….”Hm, new blood donations, should i take one bottle at home…” this line cracked me up 😀 😀
Can’t stop laughing!!!
The plot is absolutely absurd and fantastical…even I haven’t started thinking about 2015 dramas but I know some that I’m surely gonna watch…actually it’s only 1…which is Jekyll And Me…for Hyun Bin…rest…I don’t know…
I’m glad i could bring some laughter 😀 Yush, it’s quite intriguing because you really don’t know how it will flow, it could be worth watching even just to find out what’s going on and who knows, maybe it will make you keep watching! I hope there will be a grandiose romance attempt during 2015, like Discovery of Romance!
HAHAHAHAHAHAHHA It’s Ahn Jae Hyun , so Kwon Sang Seung , should already know , who is gonna cover this on “dramajjang” 😉 I find it very intresting and it’s a challenge for Ahn Jae Hyun , we already now how great Gu Hye Sun is , since Boys over flowers 😀
Ara, araso! If he drinks your blood though don’t complain!
I wish muahahahahahaha 😛
Really….is he one of your favourites Kwon Sang Seung??And from where has this name Kwon Sang Seung come from?? *curious*
Kwon Sang Seung is my male co author on dramajjang^^ It’s me Hanakimi91 (female) , who like Ahn Jae Hyun hehehe
OMO!….I didn’t know he was a male! haha 😀
Just read the about page of your blog 🙂
Hehehehehehe its ok ^^ Yeah we are two authors.
This definitely has potential to be good. I wonder how he is in surgery or when a patient comes in with a lot of bleeding.
Do you know if this will be a serious drama or a comedy one?
Hahahah….so many hilarious situations are coming out of this synopsis… 😀
I think the drama is aiming for being a mix of genres but it may turn out to be unintentionally funny…
The premise of Blood is rather bizarre but who knows, it may actually work. On the other hand KBS has been sucking in terms of drama quality this year so…. we’ll see. The casting sounds as strange as the plot. I think it would have actually made more sense to elevate Kwon Hyun Sang to play the good vampy, he was great as the baddie in VP2. Come to think of it, wouldn’t it be kinda funny if he moved from one bad vamp char to another, if OCN finally decides to continue with S3 of VP next year. XD
There hasn’t really been all that much buzz about the line-up of 2015 yet so I’ve no idea what I’m going to end up watching. Hopefully we’ll get at least couple of quality dramas in the mix.
Haha…that would be totally funny if he keeps on moving from being one vampy to the other 😀
I’m not expecting anything great (or even nice) from Blood…I’m just curious about it and maybe it will give some unintentional comedy! And there is Ji Jin hee…so at least he would be the saving grace for this…
I think you may want to check out one show which is coming from Secret Love Affair team and stars Kim Hee Ae…but this time it’s SBS…
