This is definitely strange that I realised only today that highly anticipated drama Uncontrollably Fond is premiering this very week. It really says a lot about how time flies as we always knew that the drama will be starting its run in July and that was announced ages ago as the show is fully pre-produced (yes for less and less live shooting) and is actually filmed in winter. So be ready for some cold chills this summer via Uncontrollably Fond.
The drama stars Kim Woo Bin and Suzy in the lead roles. It’s actually surprising that this is the first drama where Kim Woo Bin will play the main lead and I’m so excited for this very fact. Because from story point of view, it’s melodrama across the board. Childhood sweethearts. Check. Adults reunite. Check. Second leads with unrequited love. Check. Arrogant hero. Check. But the drama is being touted as a romantic comedy, so let’s hope that’s the case.
I do have hopes that the cast and writer will bring something more than the tired premise and characters. Kim Woo Bin plays an arrogant top star and Suzy plays a documentary producer who were in love in their youth but then got separated, only to meet again as adults. Im Joo Hwan stars as a good-hearted, perfect gentleman while Im Joo Eun stars as another rich girl who is in love with our hero. The writer is Lee Kyung Hee who has penned superhit shows like Wonderful Days, Nice Guy, Will it Snow for Christmas?, A Love To Kill and Sorry, I Love You, to name a few. Uncontrollably Fond is giving me the feels of early hallayu melodramas, but in a good way. I just hope it’s not all sad and serious. It’s funny that in one of the stills where the leads are dressed up in school uniform, he looks totally like Young Do from Heirs! The drama reunites Im Joo Hwan and Im Joo Eun as both worked together in What’s Up.
Uncontrollably Fond is directed by the PD of Spy as well as by the PD of The King’s Face and Gaksital. It will air on Wednesdays and Thursdays on KBS. I’m watching this for the cast, with hopes that the show is good as well. On an additional note, Kim Woo Bin and Suzy look lovely — individually and together! The posters have quality and are gorgeous for all four leads.
