Im Soo Hyang has mostly acted in weekend and daily dramas lately (Five Children, Blow Breeze, The Rose of Sharon Has Bloomed) but she will now be seen headlining a JTBC drama titled My ID Is Gangnam Beauty. The show is along the lines of ‘ugly duckling turns to swan’ dramas and films (200 Pounds Beauty, Sabrina, Birth Of A Beauty to name a few). Based on a 2016 webtoon, the show stars Im Soo Hyang as a girl who got bullied for her looks during her childhood and later, she undergoes plastic surgery in order to get a better college life but then the outcome is something she didn’t expect. The drama will be about how she finds the true meaning of beauty. Kpop group ASTRO‘s Cha Eun Woo (The Best Hit) costars as her love interest and fellow classmate in college, along with Jo Woo Ri (Descendants Of The Sun and Laughter In Waikiki) and Kwak Dong Yun (Moonlight Drawn by Clouds ) in supporting roles.
The plot sounds cute and light-hearted, peppered with life lessons. Plus, I love when a Korean drama is set in a college! My ID Is Gangnam Beauty is helmed by the PD of Orange Marmalade. It’s written by one of the screenwriters of Cunning Single Lady. It is follow-up drama to thriller Sketch.
