The upcoming tvN drama Asadal Chronicle has blockbuster written all over its each and every part. The show has confirmed a powerful lineup of cast that includes Song Joong Ki in his first drama ever after megahit Descendants Of The Sun, Kim Ji Won (reuniting with him after DOTS and last seen in well received rom-com Fight My Way) and Jang Dong Gun, the top movie and drama star, fresh off from completing Suits (which received good reviews if not great). The drama has a terrific team behind the camera — the PD has done shows like Misaeng, My Ajusshi and Signal; the writers have penned dramas Tree With Deep Roots and Six Flying Dragons.
As is the case during the initial days (and sometimes later too), Asadal Chronicle is being reported by various monikers — Asadal, The Chronicles Of Aseudal, etc. The drama is set in a fictional land of Asadal, being a ‘fantasy mixed with ancient history’ story drawn from mythologies. Song Joong Ki plays a man born with the energy of a blue star and fate of bringing disaster. Kim Ji Won plays his first love, a woman also born with the energy of a blue star and who was the first female politician of that time. Jang Dong Gun stars as a war hero who brings victory to the city. I’m still confused a bit regarding the plot and characters of this show and I’m sure more clarity will come with time and when we actually see the show on-screen.
Asadal Chronicle will be fully pre-produced and plans to air in early 2019. Mark the calendars!
