Ha Jung Woo, Joo Ji Hoon, Ma Dong Suk, Lee Jung Jae — all stars in one movie! It’s unbelievable but true as all of them star in new film Along With the Gods: The Last 49 Days, a sequel to 2017 movie Along With the Gods: The Two Worlds (which also had Cha Tae Hyun), which hit the theaters last week on August 1 and is breaking all box office records since then. The film is a fantasy drama where Ha Jung Woo (The Handmaiden), Joo JI Hoon (Goong) and Kim Hyang Gi (The Queen’s Classroom) play three grim reapers who are guiding their 49th soul, played by Kim Dong Wook (Coffee Prince), through the underworld trials. Ma Dong Suk (Police Unit 38) stars as the God of House who uncovers their 1000 year old forgotten past which leads them to find their secret relationship. Lee Jung Jae (The Housemaid) plays King Yeomra of the underworld. Well, the plot does sound a bit convoluted but as is the case with fantasies, you need to see or read the final product to understand and connect everything.

Along With the Gods: The Last 49 Days is based on a webtoon called Along With the Gods which was first published in 2010. The movie has set many new records at the South Korean box office — highest number of moviegoers on a premiere day (previously held by Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom), the highest number of moviegoers in a single day (Avengers: Infinity War set the record before this), the highest number of pre-sale tickets and finally, it has become the fastest film to reach five million moviegoers.

Along With the Gods: The Last 49 Days is directed by Kim Yong Hwa who also directed the first film of the franchise along with 200 Punds Beauty and Take Off among others.
