For those of you who have been watching Korean dramas since the start of Hallyu aka Korean wave, Dae Jang Geum remains one of the most iconic dramas. Also known as A Jewel In The Palace, it aired in 2003 and later in many other countries and became extremely popular. The show is about a legendary girl named Dae Jang Geum who started as a royal cook and later became the first female royal physician of Joseon dynasty. The new MBC drama Dae Jang Geum Is Watching sets around three siblings who are the descendants of Dae Jang Geum, with each having unique ability with respect to food. They are played by Shin Dong Wook (Soulmate, Lookout) who has a perfect sense of taste, Lee Yul Eum (High School King Of Savvy, Village: Secret Of Achiara) who has a perfect sense of smell and Kim Hyun Joon (Wok Of Love/Greasy Melo, Ho Goo’s Love) who has a perfect sense of touch. Girls’ Generation aka SNSD fame Yuri (Fashion King, Defendant) plays a new employee in the sales team of the company where Shin Dong Wook’s character works.

We have seen a few dramas based on food, like the Let’s Eat franchise, Gourmet, Greasy Melo, etc. and this one seems to join the line of shows that increase the craving for food to the highest degree. Dae Jang Geum Is Watching is a sitcom with food as a prominent theme and will air on Thursdays. Both the PD and writer have previously worked on shows like Soulmate and Borg Mom.
