New month, new premieres! I agree that April dramas are nothing compared to the deluge of shows that started in March but this month surely has some highly anticipated Korean dramas. So let’s check out what the current month has to offer!

The King: Eternal Monarch

On: SBS

Starting On: 17 April

Slot: Fridays & Saturdays

Stars: Lee Min Ho, Kim Go Eun, Woo Do Hwan, Kim Kyung Nam, Jung Eun Chae

Genre: Romance, Fantasy

Lee Min Ho’s comeback! Is there anymore reason? Okay, well, it’s written by top writer Kim Eun Sook (Secret Garden, Descendants Of The Sun) who is reuniting with him after hit Heirs (2013) and with leading lady Kim Go Eun after Goblin (2016). So I’m not exactly a fan of her writing but I do like the humour in her shows which is of the ‘laugh out loud’ variety. Plus, the show has a strong cast in rest of the characters and a fantasy filled premise of parallel worlds. The drama will also be available on Netflix.

Born Again

On: SBS

Starting On: 20 April

Slot: Mondays & Tuesdays

Stars: Jang Ki Yong, Jin Se Yun, Lee Soo Hyuk

Genre: Melodrama, Mystery, Fantasy

Oooh colour me intrigued! The plot of this show is about a detective, his girlfriend and a serial killer from the 80s who are reincarnated as a prosecutor, an archaeologist, and a medical student in the present timeline. I like that all three main characters undergo this reincarnation instead of one. It will be interesting to see how their story unfolds. The cast is fine too, where I have mostly seen Lee Soo Hyuk and both Jin Se Yun and Jang Ki Yong in only few episodes of Doctor Stranger and Search WWW, respectively.

Brilliant Heritage

On: SBS

Starting On: 20 April

Slot: Monday to Friday

Stars: Kang Se Jung, Shin Jung Yoon

Genre: Drama, Family, Romance

Daily drama alert! I have to give credit to this show that despite all the daily dramas following a set powerpoint presentation, its plot does sound refreshing. A 33 old woman conspires to marry a 80 year old millionaire who has four sons and eventually finds family love. I guess there would be all the ingredients here: family, learnings, comedy and romance and lots and lots of characters.

Good Casting

On: SBS

Starting On: 27 April

Slot: Mondays & Tuesdays

Stars: Choi Kang Hee, Yoo In Young, Kim Ji Young, Lee Sang Yeob

Genre: Comedy, Thriller

Action thriller about undercover spies is always a good thing in my book. Choi Kang Hee plays a former NIS agent who is sent as an undercover agent on a case involving intellectual property theft at one of South Korea’s largest companies. She is joined by an interesting cast and I’m hoping for fun, thrills and adventure!

Extracurricular

On: Netflix

Starting On: 29 April

Slot: N/A

Stars: Kim Dong Hee, Jung Da Bin, Choi Min Soo

Genre: Crime, Drama

Kim Dong Hee of Itaewon Class is starring in this Netflix original series which is set in a high school. But it has a darker tone with a plot revolving around crimes committed by the high school students and the dangerous consequences. It comes with only 10 episodes, which is always great. It is helmed by the director of Time Between Dog and Wolf and The Liar and His Lover.

When My Love Blooms

On: SBS

Starting On: 25 April

Slot: Saturdays & Sundays

Stars: Lee Bo Young, Yoo Ji Tae

Genre: Melodrama, Romance

Does it even happen to you when you want to watch a show because of the posters? Well, that’s the case with me here. The posters have that summer-spring vibe, with gorgeous and smooth shots. Add to that Lee Bo Young and Yoo Ji Tae as a couple in a romantic melo, I’m surely excited! Story is nothing new with first loves reconnecting after a long time.
