Award-winning acclaimed actor Hwang Jung Min is mainly a movie actor with only two dramas in his filmography — That Fool (2009) and Korean Peninsula (2012). Some of his films are Ode to My Father, A Bittersweet Life and The Spy Gone North. The actor is now returning to TV after 8 years with JTBC show Hush. Yoona of Kpop group Girl’s Generation aka SNSD and of dramas Prime Minister And I and Love Rain also stars.
Hush is a workplace drama set in the world of newspaper journalism. Hwang Jung Eum plays a veteran reporter who first started this career with passion for justice and truth but after spending a long time in this field, he has now become practical and disinterested. Yoona stars as an eager intern who is not hesitant in putting forth her ideas. The two come in contact when he becomes her mentor. The other cast members include Son Byung Ho (I’m Not a Robot) as the editor-in-chief, Kim Won Hae (Start-Up) as a senior reporter who doesn’t like digital news and loves print media and Yoo Sun (Mother of Mine) as the newspaper’s deputy director of social affairs and the hero’s best friend.
The drama is based on a 2018 novel and the screenwriter attached penned Korean adaptation of Suits. The PD has helmed shows like Rude Miss Young-Ae and Let’s Eat. When an actor makes a dramaland comeback after a long hiatus, I’m immediately excited for that project. Also, Hush looks promising in terms of mixing the right amount of drama and humour.
Hush starts today on JTBC following More Than Friends in the slot of Fridays and Saturdays.
