Talk about a jaw-dropping A list cast! The upcoming Netflix original series Suriname has confirmed an all-star cast with actors Ha Jung Woo, Hwang Jung Min, Park Hae Soo, Yoo Yeon Seok and Jo Woo Jin onboard. The drama is helmed by movie director Yoon Jong Bin who has directed celebrated films like The Spy Gone North and Kundo : Age of the Rampant. This will be his drama debut.
Suriname is loosely based on real events. It revolves around a Korean drug king conducting operations in South American country of Suriname. Hwang Jung Min plays the drug king. Ha Jung Woo plays a businessman, also in Suriname (natch), who gets entangled in the world of illegal drug trade. He joins hands with National Intelligence Service to bring down the drug king, with Park Hae Soo playing the team leader of the American branch of the intelligence service. Jo Woo Jin plays the right hand man of the drug king while Yoo Yeon Seok stars as his lawyer who advises him in all his dirty dealings.
The plot sounds like it could be a gripping action thriller. With this cinematic cast and director, the expectations are already sky high. The actors mostly work in films — Ha Jung Woo’s (The Handmaiden, The Yellow Sea) last drama role was in 2007’s H.I.T. with a cameo in Entourage in recent years. Hwang Jung Min (A Bittersweet Life, Ode to My Father) recently returned to dramaland after 8 years with 2020’s Hush. Park Hae Soo was in acclaimed hit Prison Playbook among other movie and drama roles. Yoo Yeon Seok keeps a balance between dramas and movies with projects like The Royal Tailor and Hospital Playlist under his belt. Jo Woo Jin is a veteran on small as well as big screen, with some names including Goblin, Steel Rain and Mr. Sunshine.
Suriname will be airing some time later in 2021. Excited!
