If you are a regular reader of my blog, you must know that I LOVE the writing duo Hong Sisters. Their classic dramas, like Delightful Girl Choon Hyang, You’re Beautiful, Best Love, My Girlfriend Is A Gumhiho and My Girl, are responsible for my immense Korean drama love. I would say though that their last couple of shows after Master’s SunA Korean Odyssey, Warm and Cozy and Hotel Del Luna – have failed to gain my interest. But it hasn’t prevented me to get excited whenever I read about their new project!

The writers have come up with a fantasy period drama this time, titled Alchemy Of Souls. This is not the first time they have penned a historical show aka sageuk. They wrote popular Hong Gil Dong back in 2008. Alchemy Of Souls is set in a fictional country called Daeho. The fate of the people here gets affected by a magic that leads to swapping of souls.

One of my favorite actresses, Jung So Min (The Smile Has Left Your Eyes, Because This Is My First Life, Playful Kiss), stars as a woman whose soul is that of an assassin but gets stuck in an extremely weak body. She becomes an attendant and teacher to Lee Jae Wook‘s character, a man from a noble family with a birth secret. She teaches him how to fight. The actor is known for dramas like ll Go to You When the Weather Is Nice and Do Do Sol Sol La La Sol – I’m laughing at how his show titles are such a mouthful.

I’m definitely intrigued by the plot and can’t wait to check it out. Alchemy Of Souls premiered yesterday in the slot of Saturday & Sunday on tvN and also on Netflix. It follows Our Blues.
