The new historical TVING drama The Love Story Of Chunhwa sounds interesting! It is about a princess who decides to find a husband by herself instead of agreeing to get married to whoever her father chooses. The show is set in a fictional country. Go Ah Sung plays the princess and Jang Ryul plays the richest merchant in that country and someone who has most potential to be her suitor. Outwardly, he seems shallow but he is hiding a secret of his own. The story also involves the search for the man who is using the princess’ face for a series of erotic paintings. This bit definitely sounds risque for a kdrama.
I have not seen Go Ah Sung in anything yet but have heard great things about her acting prowess. Her last drama appearance was in Tracer (2022). Jang Ryul has done shows like Bargain (2022) and The Golden Spoon (2022).
The Love Story Of Chunhwa is penned by the writer of So Not Worth It (2021) and Salamander Guru And The Gang (2012). The drama is set to premiere in 2024.
This might be worth checking out but then, you never know. π Sageuks have been pretty underwhealming in the past few years, at least those I’ve tried. Go Ah Sung has been great in everything I’ve seen her in but I don’t think I’ve watched anything of Jang Ryul yet.
It’s funny how sageuks are not my go-to genre but I did enjoy Mr. Queen and Alchemy Of Souls in past 1-2 years. Though they weren’t without flaws. And had fantasy genre too.
This one surely sounds interesting! Hopefully it delivers.
Yeah, Alchemy of Souls wasn’t too bad, though I somehow liked the S2 better. Mr. Queen I dropped early on, just didn’t work for me like the Chinese original did. That was totally campy fun and it never pretended to be anything else.π
