June doesn’t have a deluge of premieres but we are getting shows belonging to different kinds of genres. My overall interest level isn’t very high but I do think I can add some of them to my plan list.
The Player 2: Master of Swindlers

Premiere Date: June 3
Network: tvN
Stars: Song Seung Heon (Dinner Mate), Oh Yeon Seo (Café Minamdang), Jang Gyu Ri (It’s Okay To Not Be Okay), Lee Shi Un (Bad Prosecutor), Tae Won Suk (Under The Queen’s Umbrella)
Slot: Monday & Tuesday
Number Of Episodes: 12
Genre: Action, Crime, Comedy
Synopsis: It’s about a team of talented swindlers who target the wealthy and corrupt people by stealing dirty money that has been acquired through illegal means.
Thoughts: The first installment was well enjoyed by the audience but I didn’t see it so my low excitement for this one isn’t really a surprise. It looks fun though!
My Sweet Mobster

Premiere Date: June 12
Network: JTBC
Stars: Uhm Tae Goo (Hometown), Han Sun Hwa (Work Later, Drink Now), Kwon Yool (Longing For You)
Slot: Wednesday & Thursday
Number Of Episodes: 16
Genre: Romance, Comedy
Synopsis: A love story between a former gang leader who is presently working as the CEO of a social enterprise and a content creator who creates content for kids.
Thoughts: The posters are just way too cutesy for my taste but I do find the synopsis cute. Also, it will be exciting to see Uhm Tae Goo in a funny role after seeing him in many serious ones.
Miss Night and Day

Premiere Date: June 15
Network: JTBC
Stars: Lee Jung Eun (Parasite, Daily Dose of Sunshine), Jung Eun Ji (Reply 1997), Choi Jin Hyuk (Numbers)
Slot: Saturday & Sunday
Number Of Episodes: 16
Genre: Fantasy, Comedy, Romance
Synopsis: A young job seeker suddenly finds herself trapped in the body of a 50 year old woman. She now becomes a person in her 50s during the day and herself during the night. She manages to find job as an intern in the Public Prosecutor’s office.
Thoughts: This one looks like a funny ride, headlined by an amazing cast.
DNA Lover

Premiere Date: TBA
Network: TV Chosun
Stars: Choi Si Won (Love Is For Suckers), Jung In Sun (Let Me Be Your Knight), Lee Tae Hwan (Thirty-Nine), Jung Yoo Jin (Curtain Call)
Slot: Saturday & Sunday
Number Of Episodes: 16
Genre: Romance, Comedy
Synopsis: It’s about a genetic researcher who is obsessed with finding the man who is genetically right for her.
Thoughts: I love my contemporary romantic Kdramas with love squares or two couples. Especially when I like all or some actors in the cast. So yes, I’m excited for this one.
Hierarchy

Premiere Date: June 7
Network: Netflix
Stars: Roh Jeong Eui (Our Beloved Summer), Lee Chae Min (Crash Course In Romance), Kim Jae Won (King The Land), Lee Won Jung (My Perfect Stranger)
Slot: All episodes released together
Number Of Episodes: 7
Genre: Thriller, Romance, Drama
Synopsis: The top 0.01% of students control law and order at Jooshin High School. The drama is about what happens when a secretive transfer student enters their indomitable world.
Thoughts: It looks intriguing but I’m not in a mood for a high school Kdrama, particularly ones which look dark and gritty.
The Whirlwind

Premiere Date: June 28
Network: tvN
Stars: Sol Kyung Gu (Memoir Of A Murderer), Kim Hee Ae (The World Of The Married)
Slot: Saturday & Sunday
Number Of Episodes: 12
Genre: Drama, Thriller, Politics
Synopsis: A deputy prime minister of economy stands against the prime minister who aims to uproot the corrupt powers that be.
Thoughts: Another drama with a movie actor who is starring in his very first Kdrama after working exclusively in movies for many years. This show is looking great in terms of potential — the powerhouse cast and the writer of acclaimed shows like Punch and The Chaser.
Tarot

Premiere Date: June 14
Network: U+mobiletv
Stars: Jo Yeo Jung (Parasite), Park Ha Sun (The Veil), Kim Jin Young (YouTuber DEX), Go Kyu Pil (Crash Landing On You), Seo Ji Hoon (Revenge Of Others), Lee Joo Bin (Queen Of Tears), Ham Eun Jung (Dream High), Kim Sung Tae (High Class), Oh Yoo Jin (Seasons Of Blossom)
Slot: TBA
Number Of Episodes: 7
Genre: Horror, Mystery, Thriller
Synopsis: The drama is structured in an omnibus format with seven episodes, each delving into mysterious events that could be part of anyone’s everyday life, all centered around the theme of tarot cards.
Thoughts: There aren’t many horror Korean dramas so this surely gets points for trying something in the genre. And having an omnibus format — more points. The show plans to release three episodes as a movie first and the remaining episodes in second half of 2024.
Scandal

Premiere Date: June 17
Network: KBS
Stars: Han Chae Young (Delightful Girl Choon Hyang), Han Bo Reum (Homemade Love Story), Choi Woong (My Unfamiliar Family)
Slot: Monday-Friday
Number Of Episodes: 100
Genre: Romance, Drama
Synopsis: It’s about two women — an ambitious entertainment agency CEO who wants to have the world and a screenwriter who wants to get revenge.
Thoughts: I will always have fondness for Han Chae Young as her drama Delightful Girl Choon Hyang was my first and one of my most favorite dramas ever! But Scandal looks way too over-the-top and long. It’s another addition to the typical revenge makjang category. (Makjang is a sylistic, tonal, or narrative element in dramas that chooses to play up outrageous storylines to keep viewers hooked despite how ridiculous the stories become — Source)
