The last ‘New Dramas’ list for 2024! In contrast to our last month’s list that was quite long, December is bringing only few dramas to wrap this drama year. So without further ado, let’s check out this month’s premieres!
Light Shop

Premiere Date: December 4
Network: Disney+
Stars: Joo Ji Hoon (Blood Free), Park Bo Young (Oh My Ghostess), Bae Sung Woo (Live), Seoulhyun (Summer Strike), Uhm Tae Goo (My Sweet Mobster)
Slot: Wednesday
Number Of Episodes: 8
Genre: Thriller, Mystery, Horror, Fantasy
Synopsis: It’s about a unique lamp store that illuminates a dark alley and draws in mysterious guests with hidden secrets.
Thoughts: So many popular actors in one drama! I’m excited for this one. Also, the show is penned by the creator of Moving — hopefully it will be as captivating and epic as that drama!
Sorry Not Sorry

Premiere Date: December 5
Network: KBS Joy
Stars: Jun So Min (1% of Anything), Gong Min Jung (Marry My Husband), Jang Hee Ryung (Sh**ting Stars), Choi Daniel (Today’s Webtoon)
Slot: Thursday
Number Of Episodes: 12
Genre: Romance, Comedy
Synopsis: It’s about a woman who abruptly breaks off her engagement. The drama portrays her struggles as she is trying to pay off her newlywed home loan and her challenges as she works different part-time jobs and tries to make ends meet in a new city.
Thoughts: The synopsis sounds like a typical weekend drama but the show looks like it has all the ingredients of a contemporary rom-com that can make it a fun watch.
Who Is She

Premiere Date: December 18
Network: KBS
Stars: Jung Ji So (The Glory), Jung Jin Young (Sweet Home Season 2), Kim Hae Sook (Strong Girl Namsoon), Chae Won Bin (Doubt)
Slot: Wednesday & Thursday
Number Of Episodes: 12
Genre: Romance, Comedy
Synopsis: A woman in her 70s suddenly transforms into a 20-year-old and gets a second chance at living out her dreams.
Thoughts: This is a remake of superhit 2014 movie Miss Granny which was headlined by Shim Eun Kyung. The plot seems to have lots of comedy potential. Let’s see if it can match the awesomeness of the original movie that has already spawned many remakes in other languages.
The Starry Night / Namib

Premiere Date: December 23
Network: ENA
Stars: Go Hyun Jung (Reflection of You), Ryeoun (Twinkling Watermelon), Yoon Sang Hyun (18 Again)
Slot: Monday & Tuesday
Number Of Episodes: 12
Genre: Drama
Synopsis: It’s about a woman who is a star producer and co-CEO of an entertainment agency but gets suddenly fired from her company. She then decides to work with a talented long-time trainee who is still waiting for his debut. The drama depicts their growth as they start working together.
Thoughts: This could turn out to be an inspiring drama with heartwarming moments of growth and camaraderie. It’s also led by solid actors.
Check In Hanyang

Premiere Date: December 21
Network: Channel A
Stars: Bae In Hyuk (The Story of Park’s Marriage Contract), Kim Ji Eun (Love Next Door), Jung Gun Joo (Bitter Sweet Hell), Park Jae Chan (of Kpop group DKZ; drama My Sweet Mobster)
Slot: Saturday & Sunday
Number Of Episodes: 16
Genre: Romance, Drama, Historical
Synopsis: Set in the Joseon dynasty, it’s about the growth and love stories of the young interns at Yongcheonlu, the largest inn in Joseon. The main intern quartet includes the prince who hides his true identity and a woman who disguises as a man.
Thoughts: Is this 2020s version of Sungkyunkwan Scandal!? Crossdresssing + four main characters as interns (instead of students)! This looks like just my cup of tea and the kind of fusion sageuk I love! Also, Bae In Hyuk was amazing in the Joseon portion of The Story of Park’s Marriage Contract and in this upcoming drama, he will be the main lead! Yay!
Squid Game Season 2

Premiere Date: December 26
Network: tvN
Stars: Lee Jung Jae (Chief Of Staff), Lee Byung Hun (Our Blues), Wi Ha Joon (The Midnight Romance In Hangwon), Im Si Wan (Misaeng), Kang Ha Neul (Curtain Call), Park Sung Hoon (Queen Of Tears), Yang Dong Geun (Moving)
Slot: Saturday & Sunday
Number Of Episodes: 7
Genre: Thriller, Mystery, Action, Drama
Synopsis: It’s about a survival game where people are invited to participate — with 45.6 billion won as the prize—where only one person can win.
Thoughts: Second season of one of the most popular Korean dramas globally is here! I haven’t seen the first instalment so my personal excitement is zero. But it is one of the most anticipated shows right now!
Check In Hanyang looks like it could be fun, so I will give it a go once it airs. 🙂 I watched the 1st ep of Light Shop today annnnd it’s not my cup of tea at all. It has this really strange feel to it, that I found kinda unsettling. Horror’s doesn’t generally appeal to me, unless it’s mainly action or comedy.
‘Horror’ is one of my favourite genres – but I also get scared very fast. LOL.
I’m excited for Light Shop because it’s by the creator of Moving, which I really loved. Have you seen it?
Check In Hanyang seems very much like Sungkyunkwan Scandal to me…a good thing in my book 🙂
