Confirmations are in for the female lead opposite Joo Won in the upcoming medical drama Green Scalpel. Moon Chae Won has confirmed that she will be doing this show and will play the role of a committed and principled doctor, and is someone who isn’t afraid to speak her mind, even to her superiors. She is a second year fellow in the pediatric surgery department. She will have romantic lines with both the leads: Joo Won plays an autistic but genius surgeon with a personality of a ten year old and Joo Sang Wook plays charismatic and skilled assistant professor.

I haven’t seen any Korean medical dramas yet and so I’m not among the majority of viewers who feel bored just from hearing about the genre. It’s not like there aren’t many medical dramas, but I am not drawn towards watching them. This will be the first time that Moon Chae Won is playing a doctor. I like that she skillfully traced her journey from second lead roles in dramas like Shining Inheritance and Take Care Of The Young Lady that had Han Hyo Joo and Yoon Eun Hye as main female leads respectively, to the highly praised main roles that include sageuk The Princess’ Man and last year’s popular and much talked about melodrama Nice Guy. I think her character here sounds similar to that in Nice Guy as that was also peremptory and confident and she completely rocked in that role. But here the character looks softer and understanding, quite contrary to the cold one in Nice Guy.

Green Scalpel looks like a heartwarming show and with this commendable cast, I’m definitely tuning in. The drama will start airing from August after Shark wraps up on KBS.
