Now this is what I call breaking news!! Jeon Ji Hyun is returning to small screen after FOURTEEN years!! She did her last drama Happy Together in 1999, which also starred Lee Byung Hun, Kim Ha Neul (both busy in movies now) and Song Seung Hun. I’m always excited when stars do television after a long hiatus and here we are talking about more than a decade, so definitely I should be super excited. But as I haven’t seen any of her works, the level is definitely down. Even my non-kdrama-addict friends have seen My Sassy Girl, but I never got the desire to give it a go. Maybe that hype turned me off.
Anyways, so the new project reunites Jeon Ji Hyun with her Thieves costar Kim Soo Hyun, who did his last drama in early 2012 and that was the rating KING sageuk The Moon That Embraces The Sun. The title is Man From The Star (oh the moon, then sun and now star for Kim Soo Hyun :D) The show is a sageuk plus time travel plus alien plus rom-com. A great potpourri of themes indeed. Kim Soo Hyun stars as an alien who came to earth 400 years ago during the Joseon era and then remained here for all these years, finally to fall in love with a top actress (played by Jeon Ji Hyun obviously). The drama comes from the writer of You Who Rolled In Unexpectedly and the PD did Tree With Deep Roots, a solid team all in all.
Kim Soo Hyun was adorable in Dream High and I’m looking forward to his drama turn after doing movies back to back with Thieves and recently released Secretly Greatly. Can’t say about the chemistry but many people believe that they rocked in their movie pairing.
Man From The Star will air on SBS after Heirs and that places its premiere in Winter.
The Tree team gives me hope. I hope they do the time travel well though. It’s been overused and not always well. I liked her in Windstruck.
completely agree with you on the over used time travel theme….hopefully they’ll give this show a new personality 🙂
