I’ve loved Seo In Guk in all his projects that I’ve seen — he was simply adorable in Answer Me 1997 (a drama filled with lots of heart, warmth and nostalgia) and he was charming as the second lead in last year’s Master’s Sun. He has also acted in long weekend drama Rascal Sons that just dropped off the radar and recently seen in 5 episode short drama series Another Parting. He also appeared in movie No Breathing with Lee Jong Suk. And now there is the happy news of him returning to the cable network that catapulted him to new heights of popularity aka tvN. He has confirmed to appear in the follow-up drama of Witch’s Romance and the title is High School King, though it is a working title which might change or modify later on. He has been cast opposite Lee Ha Na, who last appeared in 2009 drama Triple with Lee Jung Jae. Wow, that is one long hiatus from small screen. Anyway, the drama is about a high school student (played by Seo In Guk) who ends up pretending to be an adult executive at an IT firm as he needs to substitute for his hyung there (so kind of like You’re Beautiful where Park Shin Hye had to cross dress in place of her brother in a boy band!) Lee Ha Na stars as a temporary employee at the same company. This might be another member of the noona-romance deluge we are getting this year. tvN’s Monday-Tuesday slot should be called a noona-romance-slot as the preceding shows were all about it—I Need Romance 3 and currently airing Witch’s Romance and partly, the show seems to be sketching a workplace scenario as well. The whole plot sounds quirky and potentially hilarious with the hero hiding his real identity in his office as well as high school shenanigans; and it’s tvN after all, so we can expect quality and freshness. High School King premieres in June.
I’m intrigued enough to stay tuned. The plot reminds me of the movie, “Don’t Tell Mom the Babysitter’s Dead” — which was a fun, fairly forgettable flick. But I liked it. 🙂
Oh I haven’t seen that movie…yes, the premise looks promising in terms of fun and romance 😉
It’s an old movie — early 90’s? Maybe even 80’s? Single mom goes on long business trip. Babysitter dies. (But it’s funny, because she was mean. And also — it’s in the premise.) Big sister has to go get a job (because the money mom left got spent… somehow), fakes being not-a-highschool-student for the bigger salary, romance with her and… office intern? (I’m thinking the age difference wasn’t huge, so he was probably a college student?). Chaos happens. Lessons are learned at the end. Fun! 😉
Anyway… Now you know. 😛
Thanks a lot for this info 😀 Sounds like a fun movie…
tvN+Seo In Guk+identity fraud is a must watch for me. I’m a little iffy about watching a noona-dongsaeng drama with a high school student, though. I even had to drop BIG, it was just too creepy.
haha….yes, sometimes the noona-romance can become iffy…but I did watch Big for my Gong Yoo and Hong Sisters love….which later turned out to be a big mistake!! (I just ignored that iffy part due to the storyline of soul swapping and the guy was a bit mature…so…)
Let’s hope in this show, we’ll be getting more believable romance rather than making us uncomfortable….
I’m totally watching this. Seo In Guk in a comedy is pretty much all I need, lol. And he’s playing a high school student masquerading as a businessman who has a romance with a colleague? Hell yeah, it’s right down my alley. It doesn’t bother me that he’s a high schooler because we know nothing will actually happen with them anyway, lol. Plus, he’ll probably be in the last year of high school, which will means he’ll be 18, which is legal and makes everything okay, ha ha
LOL…yes, it is a Kdrama after all…and he will be a high school final year student…
I so very need a nice rom-com with lots of happy moments as my experience with GG-14 D finale has been very bitter and I really need something where I can expect a 100 percent satisfying ending…and yes, Seo In Guk ♥
Triple was pretty bad– I don’t blame her for taking a break! Looking forward to her comeback~
I haven’t seen Triple but have heard that it’s awful….how is she as an actor?
Me too….looking forward to this….looks like a fun ride 🙂
Lifeless, at least in Triple. Haven’t seen her in anything else, but it wasn’t her fault her character ended up sucking so much… Haha
I think this is another noona romance! Lol So, same~
oh yes….it is a noona romance but the plot is at least a bit different from the usual cold-noona-not-believing-in-love and warm-guy-changing-her 😉
