Jang Na Ra, Jung Suk Won, Kdrama, Lee Joon, Mr. Baek, Shin Ha Kyun
Hot on the heels of her last drama Fated To Love You, Jang Na Ra has signed on her next show Mr Baek that stars Shin Ha Kyun as her leading man. I’m actually quite surprised because she usually takes some time between her dramas, so this casting definitely took me unawares. The drama is a romantic comedy with a fantasy element attached to it as it is about a rich, cold man in his 70s who magically turns into his 30 year old self. He spent all his life working and earning money and status and of course is one of the top CEOs. Now that he is swapped to his earlier, younger self, he has to face struggles as well as falls in love in the process. I’m actually not happy about Jang Na Ra’s role as she is again playing the hard-working girl, doing multiple jobs, full of positive energy, for the nth time and the description is seriously very sleepy. But I think just like the way she makes all her characters spark even when they sound dull on paper, I’m sure she’ll make us love her once again!
The show also stars Lee Joon, who was recently in the news for leaving his group MBLAQ and focussing solely on acting. He was widely praised for his last show Gapdong and I’m looking forward to see him here. He will play Shin Ha Kyun’s older self’s son who doesn’t believe in capitalistic logic of money and has only that exact money that he needs. He is oppressive and accident-prone. He starts changing on meeting the heroine. Jung Suk Won has been cast as an efficient corporate director who starts aiming towards chairman’s position once he disappears. These two will be rivals in the drama.
I like the premise of the show and the actors, though I have yet to see Shin Ha Kyun in anything. His last drama was All About My Romance which tanked in the ratings but I’ve read lots of praises for him, so I think we have a great line-up as far as cast is concerned. It looks like a fun ride and also resembles hit movie Miss Granny, only the gender is changed here. Mr. Baek will hit the airwaves in November over at MBC as it follows My Spring Days.
