JTBC is known for its different and quality content and next, it is bringing a medical drama amidst the situation of disaster in the form of D-Day. It is a story that tells about an earthquake that shocks the whole city and how the rescue workers and emergency doctors struggle to save lives and handle the aftermath. It’s a premise that I haven’t seen in dramaland before, but it does sound like Song Joong Ki’s comeback drama Descended From The Sun, as the latter also deals with emergency conditions, but of course in a fictional war-torn country and includes military and doctors, with more emphasis on romance while D-Day looks like a show which will avoid the normal course of inserting romance everywhere and will have more practical and technical approach, imbibed with emotions. I do like the movies of this genre when they are able to maintain just the right amount of tension, thrills and characters to care for.

The long list of cast includes Kim Young Kwang (Pinocchio), Ha Suk Jin (Legendary Witch), Jung So Min (Playful Kiss), Lee Kyung Young (Misaeng), Kim Hye Eun (Secret Love Affair) as doctors, Cha In Pyo (Star In My Heart) as a national assemblyman, Yoon Joo Hee (One Warm Word) as a nurse and Kim Jung Hwa (Dating Agency Cyrano) as a psychiatrist. And looks like it’s a mandatory thing for dramas to cast an idol — pop group INFINITE‘s Sungyeol costars as well, he recently acted in High School — Love On.

The drama surely looks like built on a large-scale and has produced most of its episodes before premiering, as it required lots of preparation and effects — before, during and post shooting. I’m mildly interested in this one. I’m happy to see Jung So Min in a project that sounds worthy of her talent because I think she is very underrated. I also think it’s a nice change for Kim Young Kwang as here he will be sporting a far serious role as compared to his previous cute, sweeter ones.

D-Day comes from the writer of City Hunter and Haeundae Lovers and the PD helmed shows like Hotelier and If Tomorrow Comes. It is starting from 18 September on JTBC. It takes the Friday-Saturday slot from Last. The show is not gaining much buzz but who knows, maybe it will turn out to be the dark horse.
