So much has been said about the clichéd nature of weekend kdramas including my own multiple posts. But then there are definitely exceptions that can be seen and one more to join that list is upcoming MBC weekender Bad Thief, Good Thief (or Thief-nom, Thief-nim). The drama is about a group of thieves who act like Robin Hood and thus steal from the corrupt as well as powerful and try to cause damage to them. This faction has Ji Hyun Woo (Queen In Hyun’s Man) as its leader.

Seohyun of super popular idol group Girls’ Generation (or simply SNSD) plays the female lead and will be seen as a police investigator who is very righteous, determined, dedicated and warm-hearted. Second lead roles are filled by Kim Ji Hoon and Im Joo Eun. I loved Kim Ji Hoon in Flower Boy Next Door (the only time when I suffered from a bad second lead syndrome) and want him to play main lead roles but I’m okay with him playing an important role here which is that of a skilled prosecutor who truly believes in law and rules. I’m actually surprised to see Ji Hyun Woo here in a long weekend drama but hey, who is complaining? I’ve never seen Seohyun in anything (understandable as she has only acted in Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo with a proper role, only appearing in cameos before. Plus, she was last seen in webdrama Ruby Ruby Love) and have only seen Im Joo Eun in her mini-role in Heirs as well as in some episodes of Uncontrollably Fond.

Bad Thief, Good Thief has writer of May Queen and Glamorous Temptation, and PD of Mom, Phoenix, as well as PD of Hotel King. We can safely assume some makjang-i twists and melodrama here but the plot looks light and fun and adventurous, with an added layer of heroism as the hero is fighting against the manipulative bad people in power. I’m finding the individual character posters pretty stylish. The drama will have 50 episodes and starts tomorrow as a Saturday-Sunday drama.
