I love, love, love the best-friends-to-lovers trope in fictional romance from the bottom of my heart and this is the very first reason for my uber excitement for upcoming KBS romcom drama Fight My Way (or Third-rate My Way). The second being the leads — Park Seo Joon (last seen in a sageuk role in Hwarang) and Kim Ji Won (finally landing a leading role after doing memorable supporting ones in megahits like Descendants Of The Sun and Heirs). Thirdly, the main dynamics with the second leads, who have a relationship of their own instead of wasting time in meddling with the main pair — played by Reply 1988‘s Ahn Jae Hong and Song Ha Yeon of My Daughter Geum Sa Wol fame, and added bonus — they are friends with our main couple! Lastly, the main theme of the drama which says about the struggles and chasing of dreams by the people who have always received third rates aka below average grades in everything in life, meaning the things which are necessary for professional qualifications like degree, specs, awards and all that jazz.
Park Seo Joon plays a corporate employee who was a star in the field of Taekwondo in his high school days. He still dreams of pursuing a career in the latter and struggles with an optimistic view. Kim Ji Won takes up the role of a clerk who aspires to become a news anchor. Both are childhood friends who are best friends who fight and support each other through thick and thin. Then we have Ahn Jae Hong as an assistant manager at a home shopping company and Song Ha Yoon plays his long time girlfriend. The show will explore how their relationship is tested when he starts to think that he no longer loves her the way he used to. Ouch. Fight My Way is all about the positive spirit of these characters as they make their own path in their own manner in this world and also about their friendship and love.
The drama is scheduled to premiere on 22 May, the upcoming Monday and I CANNOT wait! It is written by the writer of mini-drama Baek Hee Has Returned and directed by the PD of Oh My Venus and Nice Guy. Icing on the cake — Choi Woo Shik will be having a guest appearance!
It would be nice to get a romcom that agrees with me. I keep trying them out for size but nothing seems to fit. 😀
Awww…haha…such a nice comment and so true!
