One more Japanese drama remake is entering K-dramaland with the premiere of Mother. It starts today on tvN with Lee Bo Young (Wisper) headlining the main lead character. The original aired in 2010 and was highly acclaimed and won many awards. Lee Bo Young plays an elementary school teacher who is cold by nature. One day, she discovers that one of her students, played by Heo Yool, is being abused at her home and thus, decides to kidnap her and then starts living with her as her mother. The premise sounds definitely intriguing and fresh, and a central premise that would test the limit of morality of the main character with her action. Go Sung Hee (While You Were Sleeping) plays the real mother while Lee Hye Young (Go Jun Pyo’s mom from Boys Before Flowers; she is actually returning after many years with her last drama being Can You Hear My Heart back in 2011) plays a former top actress who moves to countryside, which forms the setting of this story.
The behind-the-camera talent for Mother includes the PD of shows like Chicago Typewriter and On The Way To The Airport, and the screenwriter of acclaimed films like Thirst and The Handmaiden, making her small screen debut with this show. Mother will be a Wednesday-Thursday drama and follows Smart Prison Living.
