This past week was full of premieres. Not one, not two but three new dramas entered the drama universe and each with a different vibe. Here is a summary of previews for all three:
CROSS
Medical dramas can sound as interesting as watching paint dry, at least to me. Hence, it requires addition of some spices to make it qualified for giving a try. The newly premiered tvN drama Cross is mixing medical genre with revenge thriller theme and stars cutie Go Kyung Pyo, in a role quite opposite in nature to that in his last drama Strongest Deliverymen. He has been quite busy recently, doing two dramas last year (the aforementioned one plus Chicago Typewriter) and now returning again so soon in 2018. He plays a genius doctor (of course!) who has taken up medical as profession in order to avenge his father’s death who was murdered 15 years ago. He takes up the work in a prison medical department where the murderer is imprisoned. What a crazy way for revenge! Costars include veteran actor Jo Jae Hyun (Punch) as the chief of the organ transplant department and 1% of Anything fame Jeon So Min as his daughter who loves to follow rules. It comes from the PD of Faith and Tunnel with a new writer at the helm.
RADIO ROMANCE
A light, cute romantic comedy, the show stars talented and charming leads – Yoon Doo Joon (Let’s Eat franchise) as a star RJ and Kim So Hyun (Ruler: Master Of The Mask) as a writer at a radio station. He can’t speak anything outside the script while she is efficient in everything except the writing part of her work. The drama will tell stories about the listeners as well as the workplace romance. Yoon Park (Age Of Youth) stars as a radio director. I’m excited for this one because of my love for workplace shows, radio and the leads. It airs on KBS every Monday and Tuesday.
MISTY
This thriller also looks like my cup of tea as it’s a murder mystery. Top anchorwoman gets accused of a murder and her public defender husband defends her in the case. What makes things interesting is the mixing of reigniting love theme with thrills as the marriage has been going through rough phase and this fight together will make the couple come closer. Kim Nam Joo is another draw as she is coming back to acting after a long time. She acted in superhit shows for many years with You Who Rolled In Unexpectedly as her last drama in 2012. Ji Jin Hee costars whose last drama was Second To Last Love (2016). We have a new screenwriter but the PD has directed shows like Beautiful Mind, Sirius and Goodbye Solo. It premiered on JTBC, hence another reason to tune in!
I’ve got nothing since ‘Just Between Lovers’ ended.
Can’t remember when I had no dramas on my roster but I’ve no interest in anything currently airing. Sigh. Guess I have to take a look at The List of Doom for once. 😀
Hahaha…I’m planning to watch Mother and Misty..have been hearing good things about them and the plot sounds interesting too. Radio Romance will be given a try just for the leads and radio love 🙂
How was Just Between Lovers??
I actually picked up Misty during the weekend and I’m really enjoying the different shades of gray of the characters. It’s been a nice surprise so far.
Loved JBL! It’s such an engeaging mood piece with a lovely OTP. There were fiew things towards the end that could have been done differently but overall it’s a solid drama.
Wow…now I’m more excited to check out Misty first!
And Just Between Lovers is the new entry for my plan-to-watch list…didn’t expect it to be a solid drama 🙂
Yeah, I’m finding Misty quite intriguing. The characters may not be all that likeable but they sure as heck are interesting. And very human in their failings. They lie and do questionable things but no one is presented as the “evil incarnate”, which I appreaciate. Interesting to see how the whole thing will play out.
