Oh medical dramas! ~yawn~ I have seen shows and films of the genre in the past but I have to admit that it is one of my least favorites. It gets so repetitive with very less room for freshness, is episodic and last but not least, I just cringe at the mandatory track of hospital politics. We just got a medical drama in the form of Life, which I skipped despite my love for Jo Seung Woo and now there is a new one premiering today on SBS titled Heart Surgeons, as self explanatory as it can get! The show is about the balance that the doctors have to make between their profession and personal life. Good thing is we have a talented cast of Go Soo , Eom Ki Joon and Seo Ji Hye.
Go Soo stars as a cardiothoracic surgeon who comes from an economically poor background and his mother needs a heart transplant. Eom Ki Joon plays a thoracic surgeon with the best skills but he is not treated well because he graduated from a local university. Seo Ji Hye plays another cardiothoracic surgeon who is also the daughter of the hospital director.
Go Soo last appeared on small screen in sageuk The Flower in Prison in 2016. Eom Ki Joon reunites here with the PD-writer team of hit thriller Defendant (which he followed with I’m Not A Robot) and Seo Ji Hye recently did My ID Is Gangnam Beauty and Black Knight, the latter earning her lots of praise.
Heart Surgeons looks pretty serious and dramatic judging from the posters and it will not have a love story, a fresh change in dramaland. It will air on Wednesdays and Thursdays.
Medical is sweaty business….. Still looking forward to this one…maybe. Let’s see if its about the medicine!
Yes…maybe it will turn out to be a good one! With this cast, let’s hope for something better than normal fare 🙂
