Apologies for lack of posts for past few days! I didn’t get time to write about some new shows that premiered in last few days so here it is, a summarised version of all:
My Country
On: JTBC and Netflix
Slot: Fridays & Saturdays
Stars: Yang Se Jong, Woo Do Hwan, Seolhyun
About: The show has the age old story about friends turning into enemies, set in the Goryeo era.
Writer’s Past Shows: Master: God of Noodles, Inspiring Generation
My Thoughts: The show looks spectacular! I also love Yang Se Jong (who was super cute in Thirty But Seventeen) and have ready many good things about Woo Do Hwan, last seen in The Great Seducer. But the female lead, pop idol Seolhyun of AOA, wasn’t impressive in the past work where I had seen her — Orange Marmalade, which is also the last drama she starred in. But I think the pièce de résistance here is Jang Hyuk, who plays the prince who helped his father overthrow the Goryeo dynasty to begin the Joseon dynasty.
Extraordinary You
On: MBC
Slot: Wednesdays & Thursdays
Stars: Kim Hye Yoon, Kim Ro Woon, Lee Jae Wook
About: Based on a 2018 webtoon, the story is about a high school girl who one day discovers that she and the world around her is part of a comic called Secret and that she is a minor character.
My Thoughts: The synopsis definitely sounds interesting, and judging from the mix of fantasy plot and source material being a webcomic, I’m guessing it’s going to have a very cute vibe. The main female lead received fame through the surprise hit SKY Castle, while Kim Ro Woon belongs to Kpop group SF6 and Lee Jae Wook has worked in Memories Of The Alhambra and Search: WWW.
The Tale of Nokdu
On: KBS
Slot: Mondays & Tuesdays
Stars: Jang Dong Yoon, Kim So Hyun
About: A man from a noble family disguises as a woman in order to avoid his arranged marriage and stay in a village where only women are allowed. He meets a woman there who does not want to become a gisaeng (a courtesan).
Writer’s Past Shows: Moonlight Drawn By The Clouds, Who Are You: School 2015
My Thoughts: Hello, cross dressing! I think it’s been quite some time since we had one and period drama and this theme brings back fond memories of Sungkyunkwan Scandal. So yes, I’m super excited for this one! This is also another addition of webtoon adaptations in this list. Plus, talented Kim So Hyun and very pretty Jang Dong Yoon look adorable here.
All three dramas are on my watch list and look like a lot of fun 🙂
Only My Country is not on my plan list but rest 2 are definitely there, and also I’m hearing lots of good things about them!
