I tried so many shows this month but have already dropped 2. LOL. Hopefully, the shows I plan to watch next are much better. Here is a rundown of my drama watch this month:
Love Scout (2025)
Watched: All 12 episodes
FINALLY finished this drama! Although my interest decreased towards the end, overall it was an adorable and fun drama with mature characters and romance, cute second leads and delightful supporting cast. My review will be posted soon!
When Life Gives You Tangerines (2025)
Watched: 4 Episodes
This is such an emotional watch! This Korean drama is being loved by audience as well as critics around the globe and I can totally see why. The show’s narrative is unique, deeply touching and full of heart. There is bittersweet feeling to it. There are instances where I said aloud “yes!” and I just want Ae Sun and Gwan Sik to find happiness and success in their lives. It also made me teary at certain times. I worried for a second that the show would follow ‘who is the husband’ mystery like Answer Me/ Reply series but I’m so glad that wasn’t the case. I do think the drama wasn’t exactly gripping in some scenes and spends more time than required in some scenes. But all in all, such a different and outstanding experience so far.
The Potato Lab
Dropped after: 4 Episodes
This show mostly annoyed me. The Potato Lab characters’ comedy is so forced, over-the-top and not funny. The whole bit when the villagers don’t allow the male lead to drive through a particular path and the female lead tries to cause physical harm to him when she is giving him a ride in her truck — it was brushed off as comedy but it was actually really problematic and she never even apologized when he was clearly injured in the process. The female lead’s anger seems a bit too much, considering the male lead hasn’t done anything wrong in particular. I read somewhere that it gets better after 4 episodes, but I don’t have the patience anymore.
The Divorce Insurance
Dropped after: 4 Episodes
I did like it more than The Potato Lab but the drama has a weird vibe. The dialogues and jokes don’t always land and it feels like the couples are forced into romantic situations right from the first episode. And it never stops and feels forced more than natural. The whole divorce insurance plot is certainly fresh but the drama doesn’t make it very engaging. And certain moments feel offbeat but not in a good way. I did start ep5 but was getting bored very early on and didn’t feel like continuing this drama.
Next on my plan:
Undercover High School
Resident Playbook
The Haunted Palace
Karma
I tried out bunch of dramas myself but the only one I’ve finished so far is Undercover High School. It was fun, especially in the beginning and I did like it, but not as much as some people. Seo Kang Joon was great in the role and I liked Jin Ki Joo’s Su A as well.
Currently watching The Demon Hunter’s romance, which I really really like. It has a perfect mix of adventure, mystery, fantasy, romance and a bit of humour as well. I love the OTP and the rest of the characters are pretty good too. The drama consists of these about 4-5 episodes long cases the main cast ends up mixed in and/or investigating. They have been quite interesting so far. There’s also an over arcing mystery that involves both of the leads. I’ve now watched 27 epis, so there’s still 9 to go. If they stick the landing, this may end up being worth a post. 🙂
I also started The Haunted Palace yesterday – not a bad start at all. It’s definitely better than I expected and quite funny in places.
Tangerins… I watched the 4 first episodes in March but wasn’t in the mood for more. Still ain’t. I found it kinda drpressing and that’s not exactly what I want right now.
I’m planning to check out Undercover High School, which does look like a fun ride.
The Haunted Palace — I’m glad you liked it. Another one I’m interested in.
I can totally understand if you dropped Tangerines — it is not very gripping and like you said, more depressing than uplifting. Funny thing is I have yet to press play on Ep5 LOL, despite planning to continue.
The Demon Hunter’s romance – if it’s good till 27 episodes, most likely it would be good till the end. Kdramas can’t keep my interest these days even with only 12 episodes LOL.
Yeah, I’ve not had much luck with kdramas in the past few years. Most are decidedly kinda meh. Even reading the synopsis usually makes me go “my, that sounds so uninspiring and bland”. 😆
I do hope that Demon Hunter stays good till the end, but you never know with these long cdramas. There have been some WTF endings, and not that long ago either.
