October starts the last quarter of 2020 and thus, brings the last few dramas to premiere this year. This is also the time to catch up on all those shows that are lying in your plan-to-watch list. Hopefully this list will help in making those final decisions — what to watch, what to postpone and what to skip?
Do Do Sol Sol La La Sol
Network: KBS and Netflix
Premiere Date: October 7
Stars: Go Ah Ra, Lee Jae Wook
Slot: Wednesday & Thursday
Genre: Music, Romance, Comedy
About: Set in a countryside, the show is about an energetic pianist and an expert part timer who meet at a piano academy called La La Land.
Thoughts: I’m getting a lot of warm and feel-good vibes from the show. Add to that the village setting and musical theme, I think it can be a pleasant ride. Initially planned to premiere in August, the show is finally staring this month.
The Spies Who Loved Me / The Spy Who Loved Me
Network: MBC
Premiere Date: October 21
Stars: Yoo In Na, Eric, Im Joo Hwan
Slot: Wednesday & Thursday
Genre: Romance, Thriller
About: A wedding dress designer gets married twice and both her husbands harbor a secret — they both are spies. Her ex-husband was an Interpol spy while the current husband is an industrial spy.
Thoughts: The plot sounds intriguing and coupled with the actors that I really like, I think it’s an easy decision for me to watch this drama. It’s also funny that both the husband characters are spies but also adds to the newness of the show.
Search
Network: OCN
Premiere Date: October 17
Stars: Jang Dong Yoon, Krystal, Yoon Park
Slot: Saturday & Sunday
Genre: Thriller
About: A special search party is formed to uncover the truth behind mysterious disappearances and murders in the demilitarized zone (DMZ).
Thoughts: A completely different role for leading man Jang Dong Yoon from his last (and very popular) drama The Tale Of Nokdu, plus his charm makes Search a must watch for me. Also, the story sounds creepy and interesting.
Tale of the Nine Tailed
Network: tvN
Premiere Date: October 7
Stars: Lee Dong Wook, Kim Bum, Jo Bo Ah
Slot: Wednesday & Thursday
Genre: Fantasy, Romance
About: A legendary nine-tailed fox (or gumiho) is chased by a TV producer who makes programs based on supernatural theme.
Thoughts: I like the cast and the fantasy genre mixing modern world with supernatural characters is always fun to watch. My only hope now is that it’s done in a satisfied manner.
Start-Up
Network: tvN
Premiere Date: October 17
Stars: Suzy, Nam Joo Hyuk, Kim Sun Ho, Kang Han Na
Slot: Saturday & Sunday
Genre: Romance, Comedy
About: Set in a fictional technology region called Sandbox (like Silicon Valley), the drama stars Suzy (While You Were Sleeping) as an aspiring entrepreneur and Nam Joo Hyuk (The Light in Your Eyes) as the founder of a start-up called Samsan Tech. The drama is about chasing your dreams.
Thoughts: My main appealing factor in the drama is the fact that it is written by the writer of amazing shows like I Hear Your Voice and Pinocchio. Her shows are full of warmth, hope and gripping stories that also have a strong moral theme. The promos are giving off a youthful vibe.
Kairos
Network: MBC
Premiere Date: October 26
Stars: Shin Sung Rok, Lee Se Young
Slot: Monday & Tuesday
Genre: Fantasy, Thriller, Romance
About: Shin Sung Rok (The Last Empress) plays a successful businessman with a happy family when suddenly his daughter is kidnapped. He then somehow contacts Lee Se Young’s (Memorist) character one month in the past, where her mother is also gone missing. Two of them join hands to save their loved ones.
Thoughts: Time crossing/travel and missing persons — the combination reminds me of God’s Gift – 14 Days. I just hope this one will have a satisfying ending (*sigh*). The synopsis is surely picking my interest and the cast looks good too.
Private Lives
Network: JTBC
Premiere Date: October 7
Stars: Go Kyung Pyo, Seohyun
Slot: Wednesday & Thursday
Genre: Crime, Romance
About: The show is about how the private lives in today’s age are fabricated, stolen and shared. Seohyun (Time) plays a con artist whereas Go Kyung Pyo (Strongest Deliveryman) plays a manager at a large company.
Thoughts: I’m intrigued by the lack of clarity on the plot details. Again, being a JTBC drama helps in bringing some interest. It also marks the comeback of Go Kyung Pyo after the military service and I’m looking forward to it. Kim Hyo Jin (Mary Stayed Out All Night) returns to small screen after 8 years in a supporting role. The actor I’m not sure about is SNSD‘s Seohyun as I have not seen her in anything. I do think the posters are quite stylish. Hoping for some substance too. The show is penned by the writer of acclaimed shows like Heartless City and My Beautiful Bride.
Penthouse
Network: SBS
Premiere Date: October 26
Stars: Eugene, Lee Ji Ah, Kim So Yeon, Uhm Ki Joon
Slot: Monday & Tuesday
Genre: Drama, Suspense
About: The lives and tensions of the people of high society who reside in Seoul’s posh Gangnam district.
Thoughts: This one looks along the same lines as that of shows like Sky Castle and Graceful Friends. The cast list is full of terrific actors and that alone is enough to place this drama in my watchlist.
My Dangerous Wife
Network: MBN
Premiere Date: October 5
Stars: Kim Jung Eun, Choi Won Young
Slot: Monday & Tuesday
Genre: Mystery, Thriller
About: Remake of a Japanese drama, the show is about a husband and wife who get involved in a mysterious kidnapping case.
Thoughts: I always love watching Choi Won Young’s (Mystic Pop-up Bar) acting and add to that the suspense filled plot, I think I’m ready to give this show a try.
Definitely lots of good stuff to choose from this month 🙂
I know right! I’m loving Start Up and planning to start Kairos. 🙂
Yay! I plan to watch both of those shows 🙂
