SBS is bringing a sports drama in 2027 and it stars Kim Rae Won (The First Responders) and Park Hoon (Bloodhounds) in the lead roles. The title of the show is Full Count. Sports dramas are not new to SBS — the network brought critically acclaimed and massively popular Hot Stove League in 2019. Fingers crossed that Full Count will turn out to be as great.
Full Count will star Kim Rae Won as a former catcher turned battery coach of a popular baseball team called Stars. He spent most of his playing career as a backup. He is well regarded as a coach but he has been an outsider within the club’s exclusive atmosphere. When Stars are on the brink of elimination from the playoffs, he gets the opportunity to work as the team’s acting manager. Park Hoon will play the pitching coach for the team, who used to be a legendary pitcher for Stars. Despite a celebrated career, he still bears the regret of never winning a championship as a player. He sees the fact that he must compete for the manager role against someone he considers an inferior former player as deeply humiliating, and he openly intends to sacrifice his rival’s reputation to secure power for himself.
Full Count is being penned by the writer of 2013 movie An Ethics Lesson and has a long time until its premiere in 2027. I like the cast and the premise, which does not sound very new but has the potential to be a thrilling and uplifting success story of an underdog.
