Snow’s Corner: 18 February 2015

Hey guys…how are you? I’m currently in a phase where dramas are not my priority as they used to be. I’m busier in real life than before, I’m watching more movies and American shows and also I’m back to my favourite thing, which is reading! But that’s not to say that I’m not watching K-dramas at all. How is it even possible? So here is a brief summary of my current drama escapades:

  • Just completedΒ Healer and totally loved it! The ending left something to be desired but all in all, a satisfactory ride from start to finish. I’ll be starting its review soon *the toughest part*
  • I’ve seen first two episodes of Hyde, Jekyll, Me and although they didn’t grab my attention as much as I wanted them, I still liked it.
  • I’ve 10 episodes of Pinocchio, collecting dust and waiting for me to watch them. I love the show. I just need some motivation to pick it up again!
  • Lastly, I planned to watch Blood but I’m not sure about it any more. Did any one watch it? Verdict?

On other news, I watched some movies: Pride and Prejudice (beautiful), Mystic Pizza (sweet and warm) and L. A. Confidential (One of the best thrillers ever).

I also started watching The O.C.Β

And that’s all for now. Happy Reading! πŸ™‚

I go through these excessive bouts of reading, had one around Xmas. Haven’t read anything since. πŸ™‚ I’m kinda gearing up to pick up my Korean studies again and that’ll take care of reading for a while. Still watching Backstrom and ever so happy that S3 of The Dr Blake Mysteries just started. Marathoned S1 of Bosch, which was ok, not as good as the books though.

You know my current dramalist and I haven’t added anything to it. πŸ˜‰ Skimmed through the 1st ep of Blood and decided to stay far way from it, ha.

OMG! I love Pride & Prejudice (the 1995 version, probably the best one out there) and have watched it countless of times. I barely remember anything about Mystic Pizza, it’s been couple of decades since I saw it, LOL! But, I’ve actually eaten in the Mystic Pizza, in Mystic.^^ LA Confidential is another favourite of mine. It holds a special place as my mom loved it to bits and we used to watch it together. James Ellroy was also one of her fave authors. Ah, those were the days when she was still of sound mind and body.

How do you learn Korean? Is there a class or online studies?

I haven’t seen these series…should add them to my watch list. I did want to watch Blood but not any more…haven’t read anything good about it anywhere and your comment makes it easy to skip it πŸ˜‰

I saw the 2005 movie version for P&P…starring Keira Knightley…I should probably try the 1995 version now…it’s a story I can watch countless times..heh πŸ™‚

I’ve not seen so many classics and films (being a 90s-2000s kid)…that now I’m watching them one by one…

Aww…watching with mom is such an awesome experience… πŸ™‚

I started out studying on my own using a textbook and whatever material there was available online in those days. Then went through several classes arranged by a Korean organization. The teaches were not professionals in any way but I got the basics. Since then I’ve attended few classes at the adult education centre (when they finally became available) + a few extras arranged by the teacher there and so far 3 classes at the summer university. πŸ™‚ There is now loads of material available online so I aim to use those. I’m also planning to pick up from where I left off with my current textbook when I started the studes for my degree and didn’t have time nor energy for anything extra. Got to get more organized with it now. It’s about time. My vocab is still pitiful, ha.

Dr Blake is my favourite series of recent years. It’s set in the 50’s Australia (Ballarat, near Melbourne) and I really like how period authentic it is. Great acting all around too. I love the grumpy doc. XD

Oh, you should definitely watch the 1995 version of P&P (the miniseries with Colin Firth & Jennifer Ehle) as it’s SO good. And has the stamp of approval from the people who are authorities in both Austen and the period. πŸ™‚ What they think of the 2005 film is better left unsaid, ha.

There were some really nice films made in the 80’s and 90’s. I don’t think they make many that good or let’s say that memorable any more. Current films have somehow lost ‘the heart’. They are often mostly just surface glitter and nothing underneath. I don’t really go to the movies much anymore as I don’t feel like doling out money for something that is not really worth it. Movie tickets cost an arm and a leg these days!

I’ve seen the first 4 episodes of Blood. It’s got potential, and finds it feet in episode 4. (Parts of episode 2 are almost painful because it doesn’t gel) but after Episode 4 I have some hope for it.
